{C} You have the power to choose

“If you choose to not deal with an issue, then you give up your right of control over the issue and it will select the path of least resistance.”
Susan Del Gatto

Choices – we are confronted with them on a daily basis. We can choose how we spend our day, how we react to situations around us, how we spend our free time. The easiest path may be the path of least resistance. Just do what’s easiest and ignore the hard tasks. Sometimes we choose to stay numb, to shut out the thoughts and emotions that we fear, to not examine our life or relationships.

But that’s a powerless attitude – and you are not powerless! You have the power to choose to move forward, to come unstuck.

Making choices is hard work – I get that, I really do. And to make matters worse, you have to make those hard choices every day. For instance, you have to constantly work to maintain your health…your relationships…or your bodies become unhealthy, your relationships stagnate.

When you do not choose to grow or move forward every day, you are by default choosing to stay stuck…be it in an unhealthy body…or staying miserable or depressed…or rooted in fear.

choices_accept_conditions_respobsibilityThat is difficult to hear, isn’t it? Because it means you cannot blame anyone else…you cannot shame yourself or burry yourself under guilt… You have to take complete ownership and responsibility for where you’re at.

So, how do you go about choosing to move ahead when you’ve run away from it for a long time? First, you need to take it one day and a time, one or two choices at a time. And if you slip up occasionally, be kind to yourself. Old habits, especially those stemming from fear, are hard to break. Beating yourself up for slipping once in a while really won’t help.

Another thing that really helps is to write down the new habit, or the new choice you want to make, and the alternative to not going after that choice. Sometimes, when you write down what will happen if you do not make a new choice…if you do not choose to come unstuck…it is all the motivation you need to change course.

I can choose to ________ or I can keep on _______.

So go ahead. Make those choices. Move forward. You can do it! I’m rooting for you!

  1. Beautiful! I could relate to every word. I’ve always believed that we are beings with choices.

As Viktor Frakl said, “The last of human freedoms – the ability to chose one’s attitude in a given set of circumstances”.

  2. Agree with every word. I strongly believe you creating, shaping your own life. For that you need to consistently make choices and take responsibility for the outcomes! Great choice for C!

  3. Great lesson
the power to choose to move forward, to come unstuck. – Is just stuck in my mind now 🙂 It is all about choice , will power and emotional strength.

  4. While the positive me would love to believe this but there comes time when the choices lie on someone else’s life or it will affec that person more than it will affect mine. Such choices are more difficult to make. It was a lovely, soothing read. And a beautiful site you have created here.

  5. Am reading at present “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill that exactly talks about an imp. Tool we all posses Choice/decision which can change every game. Beautifully written.
