Meet my boys – Loki {on the left} and Simba {on the right}. They’re almost five years old, which means they’ve been with us for over four and a half years. But it feels like we’ve had them forever.
Simba is our little ball of sunshine. He becomes Mr. Lapcat every time I try to work on the laptop {ok, most times} and literally demands his cuddle time. If we are doing anything when he wants his cuddles, he will push it out of our hands and firmly insert himselfoin our lap, demanding to be the center of attention.
Loki is the mischievous one. Although I call him the guardian of books {because he loves sitting on the bookshelf}, he is the one who will throw things when he wants attention. He’s the reason why I had to put away all of my showpieces and stack all the books that I do not like at the front of my bookshelf. But he more than makes up for it with his sensitivity. I also call him Dr. Loki – he can tell when we are not feeling too well, and will curl up next to us until he is sure that we will be okay.
Their antics regularly have us in splits.
But when they were young, they had a serious skin problem. The vet told us it was mange, which can be life threatening. Loki was affected the most – he had bald patches, became thin, lost his rockstar looks. The vet apparently told the husband that Loki’s chances of survival were slim; I could sense that too. But I refused to give up, and he pulled through. And thrived.
Now, he’s contracted some sort of skin infection again. The vet initially thought it was another attack of mange, but ruled that out. Seeing the vet a bit puzzled was unnerving, as he’s the one who diagnosed and treated them when they were kittens. But we have also become used to vets not knowing too much about cats, probably because they are still not too common as house pets.
So we’re back to the routine we had when he was a kitten – antibiotics and a betadine soak twice a day. It’s been a week and I can see a significant improvement already. But until he’s in the clear, a little part of my heart will remain clenched in fear.

They look cute. I’ve never owned a pet, though I do dream of getting a German Shepherd someday. I’ll call him ‘Steele’, after Remington Steele, you know.

The fact that there’s improvement with the antibiotics and betadine is heartening. I would say there’s a strong change of it being healed.
Mainly because our dog had something similar awhile back and it healed with the same combo.
Also, a very regal pic of those two… if one didn’t know any better, one would suspect that THE AUTHOR (who shall not be named) is falsely accusing them of being naughty and demanding to hide THE AUTHOR’S own evil behaviour! 😀
