April 2019: Tarot spread for the new moon in Aries

The April 2019 new moon falls in the sign of Aries and ushers in the astrological new year. The Aries archetype is fiery and action-oriented; on a quest to express its individuality and assert its willpower. I find shades of Fool energy in the Aries archetype – the innocence of taking a leap into the great unknown.

Spiritually, the Aries archetype teaches us what it takes to act on our dreams and desires. After all, it is easier to talk about the things we desire than to go all out and work towards the attainment of that desire. The key to taking action is courage – and courage comes from having your head connected to your heart.

Seeing as the Aries new moon is the start of the astrological new year, it’s the best time to set (or reset/reassess/re-evaluate) your big picture goals and to make a vision board to really anchor in those goals.

The Aries 2019 new moon can help us to really discern our belief system – to sift through the beliefs we have picked up from the people and ideas that we are constantly exposed to, versus the ones that we intrinsically know to be true. This will be a good time to filter through any mindset patterns that hold you back and work to shift them.

Astro-Tarot influences for the April 2019 new moon

To throw some more light on the April new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aries new moon falls in Decan 2, which is ruled by the 3 of Wands. This is to be seen in conjunction with The Emperor, which is associated with Aries.

The three of wands speaks of embarking on a journey after all the plans have been set in the safety of all that was familiar. There’s a sense of security and stability, and a readiness to shine. It also carries a sense of personal power and a clear awareness of your place in the world. The Emperor represents leadership and clarity of vision; as well as worldly knowledge and wisdom gained from life experiences.

This, then, points to a strong sense of knowingness – of trusting that you have what it takes to achieve your goals and desires. It speaks of the confidence and the will to make your goals manifest. Of doing the work to change your mindset and being unafraid to take risks. There’s a strong warrior energy to this Aries new moon, and used well, it can help you to make some bold strides towards the goals that are of the most importance to you.

Journaling questions for the Aries new moon

Not a cardslinger? No problem! Here are some questions to reflect on instead:

1. If you set some goals at the start of the year, take some time to re-evaluate then. Which ones still light you up? Which ones leave you cold? Do you need to change or add some goals?

2. Narrow your goal list down to the ones you want to focus on in the next 12 months. Choose no more than 3.

3. Make an actionable plan to achieve those goals. What action steps will you take? How will you measure the outcome? Set it all down.

4. How do you need your inner warrior to assist you during this cycle? Think: setting boundaries, clearing out your schedule, eliminating time wasters.

Working with the new moon

The new moon is when we set intentions for the moon cycle. It’s a way to focus on a particular goal or desire from one new moon to the next. I have found this to be a very effective way to get things done and to achieve my desires. Of course, there have been cycles when I have slacked, but working with cyclical time gives me a gentler perspective when it comes to achieving my desires.

This blog post details my new moon ritual and how I work with the new moon cycle.
