The June 2020 new moon falls in the sign of Cancer. It is also a solar eclipse and the summer solstice. The Cancer archetype is emotional, intuitive, nurturing and healing. It also symbolizes “home” and all the things that home represents – not just our physical home, but also our emotions, energy, body, and the spiritual hearth of our souls.
Spiritually, the Cancer archetype is one of compassion, of recognising that people act to the best of their abilities, limited by their education, upbringing and current awareness. The Cancer archetype knows that love and forgiveness are the best way to respond to destructive behavior.
The June 2020 new moon also highlights our careers and social standing. And once again, we look at this in the backdrop of the coronavirus and the lockdowns. While a lot of people lost jobs going into the pandemic, with most countries slowly emerging from lockdown, there is a chance of jobs coming back to the market. Those of us who have been working from home may have used this time to reflect on how much importance we place on our jobs. If our jobs defined us before, maybe we have come to realize that there is a lot more to our lives than the demands of our employers and the designation on our visiting cards.
Since this Cancer moon is also marked by a solar eclipse, it’s like a new moon on steroids. Take some time to reflect on your goals and intentions, and refine and change them as needed.
Astro-tarot influences for the June 2020 new moon
To throw some more light on the June new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Cancer new moon falls in decan 1, which is represented by the Two of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Chariot, which is associated with Cancer.
The 2 of Cups represents strong and fulfilling partnerships, as well as balance and harmony. It’s a card that represents relationships – mainly of the romantic kind – but also friendships, partnerships, and collaborative efforts. The Chariot represents focus and strategy; the alignment of the will and emotions to achieve the goals you’ve set your mind to. It could also represent a hard exterior mask or persona that conceals a vulnerable or confused heart, as well as highlighting the importance of maintaining emotional control.
This speaks loud and clear to relationship dynamics, be they with family, friends, colleagues, business partners, and even ourselves. Our relationships are our biggest teachers – mirrors to our psyche, they often reflect back areas within us that are calling out for help or resolution.
Every time we are rubbed the wrong way by someone else, there is an opportunity to look within ourselves and really see what’s going on in our inner landscape. This is decidedly not to be done from a victim blaming perspective, and sometimes you’re going to look at a situation and say that’s not my monkey to deal with, and that is absolutely valid.
But more often than not, when our buttons are pushed, we can improve certain aspects of ourselves. Like that friend who calls you asking for a favour when they know you’re sick? Maybe that’s telling you that you need to create and enforce better boundaries. Or if your fifth business partner walks out on you, maybe you need to realize that you actually have the capability to go it on your own. And that jerk who jumped the line in front of you at the grocery store? Maybe that’s teaching you to be more assertive (or maybe that person is just a jerk).

Because projection is a thing. We project behaviours – often our own unacceptable urges – onto others all the time. It’s when we become conscious of them that we can accept and resolve those behaviours in a way that works for us.
The reverse is also true. Other people – and this is much more so in close relationships – project their “stuff” onto us. When it happens too often, we can end up believing something that really isn’t true.
This may be a good time to look over your life – maybe your childhood, if this is comfortable for you and you don’t have trauma attached to it – and see how many of your beliefs about yourself are actually attributable to your early caregivers.
Another thing to note is that this Cancer new moon can be a rather emotional one, bringing some of our wounding and hurt up for release at this time. Be gentle with yourself. Take a time out before you get into a heated argument or funk with loved ones. And try and spend some time with a journal and pen, writing out and releasing anything that is emotionally charged and painful.

Sabian Symbol for the June 2020 Cancer new moon
The Sabian Symbol for Cancer 0 degrees is On A Ship The Sailors Lower An Old Flag And Raise A New One
Sailors typically change flags in two situations – one, when the flag is ratty and needs to be replaced; two, when they’re pirates and are want to go under the radar, so to speak {yes, I was totally thinking of Jack Sparrow there!}
This symbol indicates a time of change – out with the old and in with the new! And since we humans don’t much like change, even though it is the only constant, this could well be a bit of a dramatic time. But it’s also the only way that any real transformation can happen.
On a more serious note, this symbol typically indicates significant turning points – a change of job or cities; relationship changes; and even significant mindset shifts and changes.
