Plus some journaling questions, an astro-tarot forecast, exploration of the the Sabian symbol, and additional resources for the Aquarius new moon.

The February 2021 new moon falls in the sign of Aquarius. The independent, free-thinking Aquarius archetype encourages us to examine our inner wild self and celebrate everything that makes us unique. It is the archetype of the reformer, the idealist who strives for tolerance, unity, and a better and brighter society. The one that strives to raise awareness, consciousness, and enlightenment. And despite these rather lofty ideals, the Aquarius archetype isn’t afraid to get in there and get its hands dirty. So you may feel an urgency, an excitement to just get in there and act on your plans already.
Spiritually, the Aquarius archetype teaches us how to be true to our own voice, to listen to and follow the calling of our own heart and soul. By learning how to tune in rather than out, by being true to the things that make us unique, we undertake the journey to individuation.
The February 2021 new moon also highlights the concept of home. Where we lay down our roots, the people we consider family, and more importantly, this body that we inhabit, which is our home on this planet that we call home.
This new moon highlights the need to ground – into the home we live in, the land we move on, the body we inhabit, and the thoughts we engage with. How can we create a sanctuary, a meeting place, for ourselves and the ones we love? That’s the focus of this Aquarius new moon.
Astro-tarot influences for the February 2021 new moon
To throw some more light on the February new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aquarius full moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the 7 of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Star, which is associated with Aquarius.
The 7 of Swords often represents deceit and deception – times when things are often not as they seem. It indicates, too, the necessity of finding a new approach to a problem or situation, because the old ways may not currently be working. The Star is a card of healing, rest, and hope – the calm after a storm. It represents a time to be open and true to yourself and those around you.
This, then, highlights some of the ways in which we deceive ourselves – be it through the stories we’ve told ourselves over and over again, or an inner critic that has become our jailer, or the old baggage that we continue to carry around with us.
The February 2021 new moon asks us to take a long, hard look at all the ways in which we hold ourselves back and self-sabotage our own goals and plans. Our inner critic and our old stories can often wreak havoc on all our plans and dreams, making us feel like we are being pulled in two opposing directions.
Untangling our stories from what we know to be true can be difficult. Sometimes, we may even recognize our unhelpful stories and patterns, but still fall back into the same thinking rut.
But instead of beating yourself up for falling for the same old lie, remind yourself that it can take time for an old pattern to be replaced with a new one. It’s very easy to fall back into old familiar thought patterns since we’ve conditioned ourselves to think that way – even though that old way of thinking may not be working. It’s also important to remember that you don’t necessarily have to jump through hoops to change your story – recognizing it is the first step, followed by choosing differently. Every. Single. Time. that old story or pattern comes up again. Until such time as the new thought and associated action becomes habitual.
Tapping into your inner wise self or your inner healer can help remind you that you are so much more than the false stories you’ve been feeding yourself. That there’s an expansiveness and aliveness that you can tap into whenever you are ready. Remember and root into the power of your I AM – it is a powerful statement that can serve as a touchstone to help you anchor in a new way of being. Sabian Symbol for the February 2021 new moon in Aquarius
The Sabian Symbol for Aquarius 9 degrees is A Person Turning His Back On His Passions Teaches Deep Wisdom From Their Experience
It is perhaps a reflection of our times – or maybe my own inner musings – that made me gasp when I saw the Sabian Symbol for this new moon. Turning your back on your passion? Why would anyone do that?
It took me a moment to realize that passion doesn’t always equate hobby {and thus the passion to profit story, which is one I’ve been thinking about recently}. In this symbol, turning your back on your passions indicates a willingness to overcome the trials and tribulations and emotional rollercoaster that life can take you on. Finding your center, and then sharing your wisdom from that more grounded space.
Turning away from “passion” therefore indicates a space where the ups and downs of our experiences don’t sway us as easily – that we can still hold on to {or quickly come back to} our center even when things around us are in flux.
Operating from that space, and modelling that groundedness, that’s what this symbol teaches us. Now that is a lesson I can get behind!
