On the final episode of this season of the Art with Soul podcast, we talk about finding your zone of joy as an artist. We’ll look at the careers of Edward Degas, Monet, and Mark Rothko for clues and inspiration on our own journeys, and give ourselves permission to paint in our zone of joy! Tune in!

As artists, we love to play and experiment and learn new techniques and Take. All. The. Courses! Which is awesome, and fun, and a totally valid part of the artist’s journey, no matter how long you’ve been creating — but it is only part of the picture, especially if you have been painting for a while and have a style or a subject matter that you absolutely love to explore.

For me, that’s intuitive painting, especially abstract figuratives. That’s my zone of joy!

Recently, though, I’ve been playing with expressive abstracts {I’ll have a YouTube video on that later this month!} and collage making and experimenting with new ideas and supplies. Which has been fun, but I haven’t brought all of that freshness back into my zone of joy. And that is starting to make me grumpy!

In this episode of the Art with Soul podcast, we talk about:

  • The zone of joy
  • The fallacy of thinking you need to “reinvent” yourself as an artist
  • What Degas, Monet, and Rothko can teach you about your zone of joy
  • And much more!
