Tarot spread; astrology and tarot forecast; and ritual for the February 2026 solar eclipse in Aquarius

The February 2026 solar eclipse falls in the sign of Aquarius. The independent, free-thinking Aquarius archetype encourages us to examine our inner wild self and celebrate everything that makes us unique. It is the archetype of the reformer, the idealist who strives for tolerance, unity, and a better and brighter society. And despite these rather lofty ideals, the Aquarius archetype isn’t afraid to get in there and get its hands dirty.

Spiritually, the Aquarius archetype teaches us how to be true to our own voice, to listen to and follow the calling of our own heart and soul. By learning how to tune in rather than out, by being true to the things that make us unique, we undertake the journey to individuation.

The first eclipse of 2026, which will be partially visible across Antarctica, southeastern Africa, the southern tip of South America, and over parts of the Pacific, Indian, Atlantic and Southern oceans, kicks off a new Aquarius-Leo eclipse cycle that is set to transform and awaken a new part of our lives. If you have access to your birth chart, find the houses that are ruled by Aquarius and Leo for clues on the themes that may come up for you during this eclipse cycle.

This solar eclipse also highlights our sense of purpose and belonging. The ways in which we show up for ourselves and others. The things, great or small, that we accomplish for ourselves or within the wider world. It also highlights our partnerships — the people and ideas we collaborate and partner with, learn from, create with.

Astrology and tarot influences for the February 2026 solar eclipse in Aquarius

To throw some more light on this new moon, let’s take a look at the astrology and tarot influences of this lunation. The Aquarius new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the 7 of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Star, which is associated with Aquarius.

Some of the words associated with the 7 of Swords are deceit and deception; sneakiness and betrayal. And while those themes may certainly be valid, I tend to look at the cards as a mirror to my — and our collective — psyche. And what strikes me at this time is the state of the world and our place in it.

There’s no doubt that the world has become a scarier place — from deepening divisions in society to trade wars and geopolitical strife, we are all on shaky ground. No matter our political views or lack of them, all of us are impacted by the state of the world, be it through rising costs, job insecurity, or actual fear for our loved ones and way of life.

And while the state of the world does feel confronting, there is hope.

There is still goodness in this world: the kindness of strangers, the care of neighbors, the sane voices who make us feel safe, the people who put their lives on the line to protect the disenfranchised.

It helps, perhaps, to remember that our ancestors have lived through burning times — through wars and colonization and famine and loss of homes and livelihoods. Their wisdom lives in our bones. Life may have been hard, but they still sang and told stories and built community. They laughed and cried, loved and lost, and they endured…in us.

And we will endure too. Things may be difficult collectively, maybe even individually, but we have tools to self-soothe, to care for ourselves and those we love, to fight and resist in small ways. By surrounding ourselves with beauty, making art, writing poems, singing songs, cooking meals, paying it forward in the coffee queue, dropping off groceries to our neighbors, lending a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.

On a personal level, if you are reading this I am assuming you are resourced and relatively safe. Your heart may be heavy, your worries heightened, butandalso you can access beauty and creativity and care. You can look for pockets of hope in this crazy world. You can limit your exposure to the news, to spaces that feel confronting. You can reduce doomscrolling and make more art…more beauty…put more love into the world.

Because that is what endures: art, beauty, love, care…hope.

From an astrological lens, the Aquarius solar eclipse forms a square with Uranus, the planet of disruption and change. You may experience mood swings and heightened emotions around this time, as well as feelings of restlessness or being boxed in.

The moon is also conjunct with Venus and Mars, raising questions of worth and reciprocity. You may find yourself re-evaluating what you truly value and, at this time, you may have the courage to actually make some changes.

Saturn is also active during this lunation, bringing some grounded, strategic thinking and long-term planning, helping you to balance freedom with sustainability.

Overall, this Aquarius new moon solar eclipse invites us to choose integrity over fear, creativity over despair, and to small acts of care that infuse hope into this fractured world.

Herbal medicine for the solar eclipse in Aquarius

Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb that I chose for the February 2026 new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius is Motherwort, which has a strobh history of use in both Europe and Asia. It’s considered a protective plant, and was traditionally planted around the home or hung from doorways to keep away unwanted guests, both physical and supernatural. It was also used for smoke cleansing, to drive out bad energy from the house.

Motherwort’s energy builds inner trust and confidence, and is representative of the beauty we possess when we own the power of our gifts and creativity. Call in Motherwort’s energy when you need strength and faith to transcend old fears.

Motherwort’s connection with Venus also makes it a midwife to our happiness, helping us find new ways to facilitate creativity that honors and reveals our passions and strengths.

Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

Ritual for the new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius

This month, I have a simple, nourishing ritual to help you clear the noise, create some beauty, and commit to one tiny thing in the days ahead.

You will need:

  • A timer {the one on your phone is fine}
  • Journal
  • Simple supplies for your chosen creative project {read through the ritual below}
  • A pen
  • A candle

The ritual

I encourage you to put your phone on airplane mode for the duration of this ritual.

Light your candle, take a few deep breaths, and notice:

  • What’s been overstimulating me lately?
  • Where does my attention feel hijacked?

Write a few lines in your journal.

Once you’re done, tune in to yourself to ask and ask: “What wants to move through me tonight?”

Then create for 15–20 minutes. You can do a quick sketch, paint, collage, write a poem, do some slow stitching or knitting…the possibilities are endless.

Once you’re done, pause and notice how you feel in your body and mind.

This is your reminder: even in uncertain times, you can still create.

Now that you’re hopefully clearer and calmer, ask: “If I commit to one small thing this month, what will be it be?”

You could choose 10 minutes of art each morning, no news before noon, a weekly check-in with a friend. The key is to keep this action short and sustainable.

Make a note of your action of choice. Then, place your hands on your heart and say — aloud or in your mind:

“I choose integrity over fear.

I choose creativity over despair.

I choose ____ (the action you’re committing to).”

Take a few more breaths, then blow out the candle and go about your day.
