Unboxing The Mystical Shaman Oracle

Mystical Shaman Oracle Cards Unboxing and review

I saw the Mystical Shaman Oracle cards on Amazon last month and fell in love with them. There was something about the imagery that really spoke to me, and despite my best intentions of not buying any tarot or oracle cards for at least six months, I clicked on the purchase button quicker than you can say “Hey presto!”.

Then followed a wait of a couple of weeks - not only was the deck on pre-order, it would be shipping from the US. As I waited for them to wing their way to me somewhat impatiently, I was also berating myself for not being able to resist the siren song of a shiny new deck of cards.

But boy oh boy, am I glad I didn’t resist! This deck is absolutely amazing! Co-authored by Colette Baron-Reid and husband-wife duo and Shamanic traditions experts Alberto Villoldo and Marcela Lobos, this 64-card deck focuses on sacred symbols that are common to all people across time and cultures.

The deck comes in a big sturdy white box with a magnetic closure. The 139-page guidebook is bigger than the oracle cards, and it’s nice and chunky. It starts with an introduction to the cards, how to read them, and has an interesting 4-card directional layout. That’s followed by the card meanings - there’s a full page black and white image of the card and the interpretation is divided into The Essence, The Invitation, and The Medicine. Like all of Collette’s decks, the cards are best read with reversals {which is The Medicine that the card offers}. Lots of good stuff in there!

The oracle cards are in a smaller box, which is great, because it means you can store the cards and guidebook on your shelf and repurpose the big box for something else. And the imagery on the Mystical Shaman Oracle cards is powerful! Jenna Dellagrotia, the artist for all of Colette’s decks, has done a fabulous job with the artwork. It has a very earthy feel with its predominant color palette of browns, reds, greens, and blues; and the imagery seems a lot more mature and intense than her other decks.

If you like to read intuitively, there’s a lot that you will get from just soaking in the images. Supplement those intuitive hits with the meanings from the guide book and you’ll be blown away with the depth that these cards offer.

I can’t wait to get to know this deck better! I have been using them along with my tarot draws to see how they pair with my decks. And I’ll be working with them for some tarot + oracle readings on Instagram, so make sure you’re following me there!

If you feel as drawn to these cards as I was, you can buy a deck on Amazon!

If you'd like to work with me one-on-one for a tarot reading, you can do that here. All my readings are delivered online, so no worries about scheduling conflicts or time zones!

So tell me, what do you think of these cards?

  1. Ohhhhh dear….. I just fell off the bandwagon a couple of weeks ago and bought two new decks, both of which I absolutely adore (Secrects of the Mystic Grove and Shamanic Medicine), but I see I’m simply going to have to buy this one. It looks like the most gorgeous thing I’ve seen for a long time… stunning images. I have quite a few others by Colette Baron-Reid, but this looks above and beyond. Thanks for showing it, Shinjini!!

    • Ooh! I must go check those out…or maybe not…I really don’t need another oracle deck. lol! These cards, though, are really something else. A lot deeper than Colette’s other decks – and I’m a fan of her decks, too! Hope you like this deck. 🙂

  2. The deck looks very compelling. But then even your artwork is just as amazing. I don’t know much about reading cards but they would go very well with your latest work on instagram.

  3. The smell of fresh paper as you unwrap a parcel ! What a thrill it must be to open up something you’ve been waiting for . And they do look irresistibly lovely. I’ve never ordered anything from abroad . I must try it

  4. Wow! What a lovely deck of cards, Shinjini…so bright, fascinating and mystical. I’m always very intrigued by how they work and how you interpret the readings! It must be quite magical I imagine.

    • Oracle cards are actually easy to start with. Most of them come with a guidebook. To start, you can just read those messages and see how they relate to your question. As you get more familiar with them, you start trusting your intuition more.
