February 2020: Tarot spread for the full moon in Leo

Tarot spread for the February 2020 full moon in Leo

The February 2020 full moon falls in the sign of Leo. The bold and dynamic Leo archetype infuses us with a passionate zest for living. It is the archetype of the fiery creative who is confident and unafraid of standing in the spotlight. But this infectious dynamic can quickly succumb to its shadow aspects of overbearing pride, drama and arrogance.

Spiritually, the  Leo archetype teaches the principle of creative manifestation. Clarity of thought and focus direct energy, which points to the spiritual principle that it is your beliefs about life that will shape your life. You can see this spiritual principle at play with a regular gratitude practice. As you cultivate an attitude of gratitude, you experience a significant transformation in your life and circumstances. And while your life may not change dramatically, your outlook to life leads to a shift in how you shape your life.

The February 2020 full moon also highlights our creativity, interests and habits, and puts a spotlight on communication and mental and creative capabilities. This full moon in Leo would encourage the pursuit of creativity in all its forms – habit formation, communication, hobby projects and the like.

Astro-tarot influences for the February 2020 full moon

To throw some more light on the astrology of the full moon in Leo, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Leo full moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the 6 of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Strength, which is associated with Leo.

The 6 of Wands represents victory, achievements, and winning laurels for all the hard work that we have put into our chosen field – be it on the job front, with a passion project, or in learning or building something new. The Strength card speaks to our ability to tame the ego – the wild impulses and irrational fears that can easily throw us off course. By allowing us to gain control over our irrational impulses, the Strength card gives us the gift of clarity and enables us to act in accordance with our will.

This, then, speaks to maintaining that fine balance between confidence and cockiness; between the single-minded pursuit of your goals versus the fears that the ego loves to project onto us and trip us up.

There is a swirling, fiery energy to this full moon. A potency that gives a firm push to our dearest endeavors and helps us apply creative problem solving if and where needed. This tarot card combination also ties in to the Leo archetype’s ability to show us how to come into right relationship with the ego.

Yes, the same ego that has got such a bad rap, especially in spiritual circles. While it is true that a misguided and unchecked ego can create a number of very valid problems, including analysis paralysis, human beings cannot exist without an ego. Instead of crushing it, overcoming it, or transcending it, how about using it as a force for good?

A good start would be to recognize our fears for what they are – the ego’s attempt to keep us safely in the comfort zone,  no matter how much we may be struggling to get out of it, using any means necessary. And by understanding what makes you uniquely “you” {the function of a healthy ego}, you can play to your strengths, enjoy this human experience, and marvel at the miracle of being alive!

Sabian Symbol for the February 2020 Leo full moon

The Sabian Symbol for Aquarius 4 degrees is American Indians Perform a Ritual to the Sun.

This is such a sacred image. I see it as an invitation to lean into our own rituals and practices. We can base them on our own culture, one that is steeped in traditions, in the sacredness of life on this beautiful planet. Or we can create our own rituals that work for us and our circumstances.

I see this too as a call to get back in touch with nature, with the natural rhythms of life that we see outside the window. More importantly, I see this symbol as a call to remember the sacredness of life. It’s all to easy to dismiss the synchronicities and ignore the tiny yet oftentimes powerful lessons that an examination of nature can teach us. And yet, when we allow the busyness and noise of modern life to drown out the wisdom that surrounds us, we cut ourselves off from a precious stream of ancestral wisdom that always surrounds us.

Working with the moon

The full moon is a time of completion. The intentions that you set at the new moon are ready to be birthed into the world. The full moon illuminates the fruits of the work you’ve done towards achieving your new moon intention and to make any tweaks as necessary. This is a good time to release any negative emotions, habits, thoughts, beliefs and to look within and shift any blocks and old patterns that don’t serve you any more.

I tap into the energy of the full moon to call in and celebrate the sign’s qualities in myself; to release any related limiting beliefs; and to express gratitude for whatever is coming up.
