March 2020: Tarot spread for the full moon in Virgo

Tarot spread for the March 2020 full moon in Virgo

The March 2020 full moon falls in the sign of Virgo. The Virgo archetype is logical and practical, with an eye for detail and the steadfastness to go after their goals. This is a sign that thrives on meticulous planning, on honing skills to perfection and gaining mastery over their chosen vocation.

Spiritually, the Virgo archetype teaches the principle of devotion. One way to understand this principle is by looking at it through the lens of one’s devotion to their craft. While all the buzz seems to point towards profiting from your passion, there are numerous examples of famous writers and artists who held down a day job for most of their lives. Franz Kafka was an insurance clerk, Harper Lee was an airline ticketing agent, Mark Rothko was an elementary school teacher and Paul Gauguin was a stockbroker. They could all have given in to the dull drudgery of making a living, but they didn’t – and the world is much richer for their devotion to their craft.

The March 2020 full moon also highlights our career choices and career path, particularly as it relates to our dream job. So while we may be stuck in a cubicle during the day, our heart may lie in building a creative business, for example. Or maybe our heart lies in a job in a different department or industry or field. Whatever the case may be, whatever our dream job is, that is what is highlighted during this Virgo full moon.

Astro-tarot influences for the March 2020 full moon

To throw some more light on the astrology of the full moon in Virgo, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Virgo full moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the 9 of Pentacles. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Hermit, which is associated with Virgo.

The 9 of Pentacles represents mastery over our chosen vocation or profession. All of the hard work and the sleepless nights that we have spent honing our craft, building a career, are now coming to an end – it’s time to enjoy the fruits of our labour. The Hermit is an inward and solitary energy, and represents a time to pull away from society to find our own personal truth. It’s a call to reflect on our journey so far and to determine where we want to go from here.

This, then, speaks to a time to take stock of where we are and consolidate our position. To see where and how we spend our time and energy. If we are moving ever closer to our dreams, or if they still feel elusive. If we are confident in the direction we are growing in, or are comparing our journey with someone else’s.

This is a particularly tricky area to navigate. Often, we can feel like we haven’t achieved “enough”. That we have nothing to harvest. We may be in a state of flux, our job situation precarious; no time for any creative hobbies; if we have a business idea or a side gig, maybe that’s falling apart too.

And while I am very mindful that for some of us, the struggle is very real, and I do not want to negate any confusion, anxiety or uncertainty some of us may be going through, I also think there is medicine in everything we experience.

Not necessarily a reason. Not necessarily that everything will work out somehow. Rather something that we learn. Some ways in which we grow. And while the way through may be hard…or long…or seem never-ending…there are pockets of calm, peace and acceptance along the way.

This is true of careers that seem stuck or like they’ve never taken off. This is true of side gigs that we are really passionate about but that seem to fall flat on their face while others around us are successful in the same field.

Speaking from personal experience, my current job situation feels stagnant. There’s no growth, no new learning, and no new avenues that I have been able to find – within my organization or outside. This is frustrating, because there’s only so much one can do by rote and just for the money. AND this situation has been conducive to my art and spiritual practice. When I’m back from the 9 to 5, I’m itching to express myself creatively; to dive into areas of study and practice that light me up.

So allow this full moon to illuminate the medicine – the ray or even the pinprick of light – in your situation. Tap into Virgo’s eye for detail and meticulously and logically, perhaps even dispassionately, assess your situation to determine where you stand, and in which direction you wish to grow.

Sabian Symbol for the March 2020 Virgo full moon

The Sabian Symbol for Virgo 19 degrees is A Caravan Of Cars Headed For Promised Lands.

This symbol conjures up images of new ways of being and new ways of living. Of shedding old stories – such a theme so far this year! – and actually moving forward towards something better, perhaps even more expansive.

There’s risk inherent in this symbol. After all, it is somewhat risky to leave the familiar comfort of the status-quo and move towards a vision, a hope, a dream. Perhaps this is why, when making any such move, it’s a good idea to have a few like-minded people along for the ride – be they cheerleaders or travellers in a similar direction.

And even if you don’t have someone to accompany you on your quest, it could help to remember that every day, someone or the other is taking a step towards their own promised land. In this way, energetically, you’re never alone!

A map to your promised land may be helpful, of course. Which means being clear about where your promised land is and what you will do/how you will feel once you’re there.

Journaling questions for the March 2020 Virgo full moon

You can use these journaling questions instead of the tarot spread, if tarot isn’t your thing. Cardslingers, you can also use these journaling prompts for further reflection:

Take stock of your primary career, be that your 9 to 5 or your business. Where do you currently stand at work and/or business? If you don’t have either, what is your dream job…your vocation?

(Tip: The way I look at it, a dream job doesn’t necessarily have to support you. For example, I have a 9 to 5, but my dream job is in teaching and selling art and tarot, which currently doesn’t support me or bring me any sort of regular income.)

Where do you want to grow? If your 9 to 5 is not your ideal job, what would you rather be doing instead? If you’d rather be pursuing a side gig, what shape would you like that to take?

(Remember: Not all of us want to quit the 9 to 5 to pursue a business, even though that’s the loudest messaging we hear. Time to get some clarity for yourself!)

What can you do – networking, learning new skills, taking on stretch assignments – to move in the direction of your dream job?

  1. Hi ! So .. I love your spreads and do them often … here’s my q… in position 3 ( more supportive energies ) I got 5 of swords ( which feels like such an unsupportive card) how do I read that ?? ( my card for #4 is Hanged Man ….) any insight would be helpful ❤️

    • Wonderful! I’m so happy that you like them! So I would consider how can the energy of 5 of Swords can be helpful. Do you need to be a little “selfish”? Need to block out some time when you’re asked not to be disturbed? It could also be an indication to do some mindset work. Hope this helps! ❤️

  2. I’m way past the dream job but I can definitely dream about a fixed creative path. Should I write or should I paint. Haven’t touched a paint brush in decades but still itch to hold something in my hand and colour wash my world
