June 2020: Tarot spread for the full moon in Sagittarius

Tarot spread for the June 2020 full moon in Sagittarius

The June 2020 full moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius. The freedom loving Sagittarius archetype is in a constant search for inspiration, new avenues of exploration, and adventure. This is a sign that gets bored of the status quo easily, and needs the rush of a new quest to keep them on their toes.

Spiritually, the Sagittarius archetype teaches us to cultivate our own personal relationship with the divine. Contrary to what most religions and a lot of spiritual teachers say, you don’t need an intermediary between you and Source/God/the Universe. You have that connection available to you at all times. Learning to tune in and trust that connection is where a lot of us seem to stumble, though. The Sagittarius archetype teaches us to trust that things will work out and that there is always a higher purpose behind everything that happens in our lives.

The June 2020 full moon also heralds the start of eclipse season, and highlights our search for meaning and our desire to expand our inner and outer lives. The Sagittarius full moon illuminates our desire to journey to the unknown, to deepen our spiritual, psychological, and philosophical understanding. Which is particularly appropriate for these times that we are living in.

The pandemic has forced all of us to rethink and reorient our values; to come back to the things that are most important to us; to find our own center; to be self-sufficient and resilient in ways that we never would have considered in “normal” times.

Astro-tarot influences for the June 2020 full moon

To throw some more light on the June full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Sagittarius new moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the Nine of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Temperance, which is associated with Sagittarius.

The 9 of Wands represents wounding, defensiveness, and an overall battle weariness. It indicates, too, a very real chance of knee-jerk reactions and conflicts, which are par for the course when we’re weary and irritable. Temperance represents an inner stillness and balance. It carries a soothing and calming energy, and represents rest, healing, and rejuvenation.

This speaks to the importance of calling a time-out; of allowing ourselves some rest; of soothing our frazzled nerves to the best of our ability. The world around us may be unrecognizable; the easing of self-isolation measures may be causing us anxiety, but here…now…we can be in charge of our own environments.

If we need to venture out for work, we can take all of the necessary precautions. We can, perhaps, negotiate safety procedures with our place of work. If we don’t need to venture out, we can choose to remain in self-isolation or open up our world just a tiny little bit if we feel so called.

At the end of the day, no matter what is happening in the world around us, we are only responsible for our own choices and in how we show up to life. What this may look like will be unique for each one of us.

This Sagittarius full moon is also illuminating our desire for a deeper spiritual, psychological, and philosophical understanding, which takes on deeper import given the events playing out on the global stage. The deep shadows of humanity are out on full display – from rampant Islamophobia in India to the protests against police brutality in the US to a far-right President’s complete disregard for the coronavirus in Brazil.

There is rage and fear, isolation and a feeling of othering, and also a chance for deep healing and transformation. This is going to be a slow process. The othering and deep mistrust of the other is unlikely to go away any time soon. But the anger boiling over on our streets is what will allow us to shine a light on this shadow and start to do the work of tackling this deep generational trauma.

Yes, this too is being highlighted with this Sagittarius full moon. The work we do today may bear fruit generations down the line, but unless we start, this suffering will only continue, and to that we must stand up and say enough. No more.

While all lives do, indeed, matter (that was never even up for dispute or discussion), there is a reason for saying Muslim lives matter and Black lives matter. And that is because of the deep injustice our Muslim and Black brothers and sisters face due to the color of their skin or their names, that those of us who are Hindus or whites could never even begin to imagine.

So rest; heal; read; do the work; be an ally; and focus on the choices you are making, because at the end of the day, what you choose – i.e. what you pay attention to – grows.

The Numinous Stardust

Sabian Symbol for the June 2020 Sagittarius full moon

The Sabian Symbol for Sagittarius 15 degrees is Sea Gulls Fly Around A Ship Looking For Food.

Seagulls and ship farers have, since time immemorial, had a symbiotic, co-dependent relationship. While weary sea farers knew they were close to land when they saw seagulls flying through the sky, seagulls knew they could get some food from these strange wooden horses that sail on top of the sea.

This symbol points to the need to be alert, to be able to see opportunities and act on them. It points to being open to the flow of receiving, for it is only when we see what is available to us, and determine if it matches our desire, that we can receive what we want. The flip side to this is the grasping that can come from a place of scarcity and fear.

At the same time, this symbol highlights both co-dependence and the need to maintain vigilance on our own behalf. No man is an island; we all need help and support from time to time. And yet, no one else will ever look out for our personal desires, we have to be our own personal advocates. Walking this fine line is what this Sabian Symbol also indicates.

  1. In the spiritual community, I see a lot of bypassing and a total disregard for the reality of the world. I appreciate so much that you are willing to directly name what needs to be named at this time. I have been disappointed over and over again by folks who I believed were truly aware and I am so relieved and affirmed that you are one who I can rely on. Thank you thank you thank you!

    • Thank you. If we are to be truly spiritual, we need to acknowledge what is happening in the world even as we tend to ourselves. We need to stand up for what is right – in whatever way we can – if we are to come to wholeness and soundness. Not addressing what’s happening in the world doesn’t help anyone – most certainly not our spiritual growth! I’ve been constantly disappointed by the disregard for reality I’ve seen in spiritual circles, and I believe we can be and do both – activism (however that looks for us – protesting, signing petitions, speaking to friends and family) and deep spiritual work. xx
