September 2020: Tarot spread for the full moon in Pisces

Tarot spread for the September 2020 full moon in Pisces

The September 2020 full moon falls in the sign of Pisces. The Pisces archetype is highly intuitive and very open to the flow of creative imagination. This is the sign of creative dreamers and mystics and visionaries, which makes this new moon an excellent time to flex your intuitive and creative muscles.

Spiritually, the Pisces archetype teaches the principle of unity, of recognizing the divinity within you. One way to understand this principle is by looking at creation – the creator {God, Universe, Source, however you wish to name it} created this earth, the rivers and seas, the trees, birds, insects, animals, man. Similarly, man has the ability to create – and to create consciously. It is this ability that points to the spiritual truth of Pisces, that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. It is by accepting responsibility for consciously creating that you connect most deeply with the creator. Needless to say, empathy and compassion are the cornerstones of the Pisces archetype.

The September 2020 full moon also highlights our roots – our family and lineage, our foundations, and our sense of self. It asks us to consider the idea of home, to examine what we are building – a house {i.e. a focus mainly on material wealth and comfort to the exclusion or detriment of all else} or a home {i.e. strong family ties and values, vibrant communities, being in right relationship with ourselves}. It is when we find a balance between the ideas represented by a house and a home, that we are truly at peace with ourselves.

With all the upheaval and uncertainty that this year has presented, it becomes even more important to closely examine our lives, to understand our value system, and to ensure that we are, indeed, living a meaningful, fulfilling life – and are not just on a hamster wheel, running aimlessly or perhaps unconsciously through life. The best way that I know to do this, is to journal. I have created an in-depth workbook based on the life audit that I did for myself recently, which you can find here.

Astro-tarot influences for the September 2020 full moon

To throw some more light on the September full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Pisces full moon falls in decan 1, which is represented by the 8 of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Moon, which is associated with Pisces.

The 8 of Cups represents a time when we realize that certain stories are no longer serving us. It is a call to let go of all those things and emotions and stories that only hold us back. It could also indicate a desire to set off on a journey to discover our own personal truth. The Moon rules our imagination, which can be both a wonderful and a terrible thing. The imagination is where we weave our beautiful dreams; the imagination is also fertile ground for our festering fears. The Moon is also mystery and magic; it’s the cycle of birth and death and re-birth; and a visual reminder of cyclical time.

This, then, speaks strongly to the need to re-evaluate our lives, our priorities, and the values by which we are operating. A lot of us do a version of this at the end of the year, when we sit down to reflect over the year gone by and plan for the one ahead.

This September 2020 full moon, though, is a call to go much deeper. The unprecedented times that we find ourselves in, with our lives seemingly on pause, is like this liminal space where we can examine the tapestry of our life and weave the threads of a new one – a more conscious, meaningful way of living, loving, and being in this world.

How do we show up for ourselves? What values guide our decisions? What and whom are we giving our attention to? How do we want to grow into a better version of ourselves? What traumas or hurts do we need to heal for that? These are just a few of the big questions that this Pisces full moon can help us begin to answer. These are also some of the themes that we tackle in The Inner Quest Workbook.

This full moon also points back to the Pisces new moon in February this year, which asked us to throw aside the habits and stories that hold us back. This would be a good time to reflect on any stories that still hold us back, any old patterns that are being illuminated and that can be released at this time.

Sabian Symbol for the September 2020 Pisces full moon

The Sabian Symbol for Pisces 10 degrees is People Traveling A Narrow Path, Seeking Illumination.

This symbol brings to mind a pilgrimage…a quest…a search for light in the murky shadows of our hurts, sorrows, and trials. And in the course of life and living, there are many experiences and situations that hurt us, some that we bury away in the unconscious, some that fester like sore wounds.

Unless we can shine the light in the shadows and learn how to forgive the trespasses that have been done against us, it is difficult to move towards wholeness and soundness. Forgiveness has nothing to do with accepting a wrong that was done to us; it is about deciding that the wrong will not continue to dictate and influence our lives. A traumatic experience of the past need not color similar experiences in the present or the future.

This symbol also speaks to the ability – nay, the necessity – to persevere with our search, regardless of the cost. There may be times when we have to give up our creature comforts, when the path may be rigorous and hard; there may be times when things may be clearly illuminating, and others when confusion abounds. Being able to continue to walk the path regardless, to reject what is unworthy, to apply discernment and perseverance, staying true to our objectives and focused on our goals is also what this symbol conjures up.
