Tarot spread for the April 2021 new moon in Aries

The April 2021 new moon falls in the sign of Aries. The Aries archetype is known for its bold – often rash – action, for going where angels fear to tread. As the first sign of the zodiac, it represents the active core of our spiritual journey on earth, and teaches us to act in accordance with our ideals. The Aries archetype teaches us to be unafraid to march to our own drumbeat, to assert our willpower towards the attainment of our desires, and to embrace beginner’s mind and the innate trust and explosive power {conviction + action} that is needed to start something new.

Spiritually, the Aries archetype teaches us about action. And as most of us know, it’s easier to talk about the things we want to do than to put in the work and actually do the thing! Aries teaches us that courage is the key to unlocking the full potential of this spiritual principle. And that comes from connecting your head to your heart, focusing your will, and taking consistent action towards your dreams.

This new moon also marks a time of endings and new beginnings. It can bring up old issues, patterns, or blocks for another go-around or a final resolution. Healing work – be it therapy or self-healing techniques – will be helpful during this time. Also pay attention to any intuitive hits during this moon cycle. Keep track of your dreams and find some way to tap into your intuition on the regular. Consider drawing a daily oracle or tarot card – especially during this moon cycle.

Astro-tarot influences for the April 2021 new moon

To throw some more light on the April new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aries full moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Four of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Emperor, which is associated with Aries.

The 4 of Wands represents stability and security, often after a period of upheaval or transition. There’s an air of celebration and a sense of achievement that’s often associated with this card. The Emperor represents leadership and clarity of vision; as well as worldly knowledge and wisdom gained from experience. It also represents a time to take charge of your life and wield your personal power and authority.

This, then, creates an interesting juxtaposition of gaiety and gravitas. We tend to view The Emperor purely as an authority figure burdened with matters of state {authority, leadership, responsibility}. But emperors need to celebrate too – and not just during functions of state. I’m thinking here of King Ragnar {from the Netflix series, The Vikings}. He was a common peasant whose only dream was to explore the world. Circumstances and other people’s actions propelled him first from peasant to Earl and then to King. Through his story arc, you can see glimpses of this juxtaposition – that thrill of discovering new lands and conquering new cities {4 of Wands} with the much more serious business of looking after the safety of his family, ruling his people and keeping his throne {The Emperor}.

In what ways do you sense a similar juxtaposition in your life? That push and pull between responsibility and relaxation? Can you make some space for laughter and gaiety? Are you celebrating your wins – no matter how small? Are you allowing yourself to dream without making it into another “thing” that needs to be checked off your to-do list?

There’s an energy of renewal that I am also sensing at this time. Like a heavy burden is being taken off our shoulders. Rest, renewal, a rethink or reframe of something that felt heavy and stuck – perhaps in a sudden flash of insight – that can feel more expansive and spark new, more creative ideas.

This new moon – on the whole – feels like a bit of a fresh slate. A time to welcome new beginnings and fresh ideas. To celebrate all that has brought you this far and to plant some dream seeds for the months to come.

This symbol makes me think of the heavy loads most of us carry – some necessary, some old baggage that we refuse to leave. It reminds me too of the burden of responsibility that is often placed on our shoulders from numerous quarters – work, home, family, communities. And of our valiant attempts to smile through it all, hoping that our tiredness can be hidden behind sunny smiles.

It is true that we often need to chin up and shoulder our responsibilities. But it is also true that we sometimes need to share our load – be that through delegation or simply by saying “NO”. We need to recognize the necessity of setting down our load – responsibilities, worries, fears – for a little while…to rest for a moment instead of constantly soldiering bravely on.

  1. I have two Ariens in my life -hubby dear and first grandson . It’s funny how action oriented they are and how they rush into things unthinkingly. If they think too much , chances are they won’t budge from the current position.
I am seriously thinking of signing up for your course . Just have to steel myself to make time for it and STICK to it . I hate giving up things halfway ….
