Tarot spread for the August 2021 full moon in Aquarius

The August 2021 full moon falls in the sign of Aquarius — again. The independent, free-thinking Aquarius archetype encourages us to examine our inner wild self and celebrate everything that makes us unique. It is the archetype of the reformer, the idealist who strives for tolerance, unity, and a better and brighter society. And despite these rather lofty ideals, the Aquarius archetype isn’t afraid to get in there and get its hands dirty.

Spiritually, the Aquarius archetype teaches us how to be true to our own voice, to listen to and follow the calling of our own heart and soul. By learning how to tune in rather than out, by being true to the things that make us unique, we undertake the journey to individuation.

When we have two full moons in the same sign, the first one represents an entry point into a particular energy, and the second one represents an exit point. Both of these full moons work together, so if anything felt incomplete or inconclusive from the full moon last month, this Aquarius full moon could bring a sense of completion.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

The overall energy of this full moon is much more grounded and optimistic than the previous one, though it still is a potent time creatively. The full moon is in the second-last degree of Aquarius and the sun is just about exiting Leo, lending us a final burst of creative confidence.

Astro-tarot influences for the August 2021 full moon in Aquarius

To throw some more light on this full moon, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aquarius full moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the 7 of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Star, which is associated with Aquarius.

The 7 of Swords often represents deceit and deception – times when things are often not as they seem. It indicates, too, the necessity of finding a new approach to a problem or situation, because the old ways may not currently be working. The Star is a card of healing, rest, and hope – the calm after a storm. It represents a time to be open and true to yourself and those around you.

In July, the Aquarius full moon offered us the opportunity to examine all of the ways in which we compare and judge ourselves for our real and perceived flaws. This, I believe, is the work of a lifetime, though there are periods and cycles when we are more intuitively receptive to understanding our own psychological underpinnings.

As this Aquarius energy exits this particular lesson, it could illuminate a deep seated self-sabotaging belief, giving us the opportunity to see yet another way in which we may be dimming our light or making ourselves small. By excavating and examining these often deep seated and false beliefs, we can free up our energy, stepping more fully into our own light – releasing that stuck energy so it can fuel our next evolution.

In 360 Degrees of Wisdom: The Sabian Oracle, Lynda Hill says: “Whether real or not, these gardens [The Garden of Babylon] appeal to the human desire to return to the simple and exquisite life of the Garden of Eden, a life of earthly paradise…Rewards come from nature’s bounty for all the work that’s been done even amongst the devastation and ruin that has been endured…When you are following a true path, you are able to rely on the support of the universe in its flow.”

This symbol reminds me though our true potential can be dimmed and cast into the shadows, it’s still there — we just need to make it conscious. As the Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, said: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

The seeds to our transformation are within us — we just need to see them and let them bloom!
