Plus an astro-tarot forecast, journaling questions, and an exploration of the Sabian symbol for the full moon in Aries.
The October 2024 full moon falls in the sign of Aries. The Aries archetype is known for its bold – often rash – action, for going where angels fear to tread. As the first sign of the zodiac, it represents the active core of our spiritual journey on earth, and teaches us to act in accordance with our ideals. The Aries archetype teaches us to be unafraid to march to our own drumbeat, to assert our willpower towards the attainment of our desires, and to embrace beginner’s mind and the innate trust and explosive power {conviction + action} that is needed to start something new.
Spiritually, the Aries archetype teaches us about action. And as most of us know, it’s easier to talk about the things we want to do than to put in the work and actually do the thing! Aries teaches us that courage is the key to unlocking the full potential of this spiritual principle. And that comes from connecting your head to your heart, focusing your will, and taking consistent action towards your dreams.
This full moon also highlights your voyage of self-discovery: who you are, who you’re becoming, how do you realize your best self?
It’s an excellent time to shine some light on your unique personality traits, the things about yourself that you want to change, and perhaps more importantly, to consider how you can achieve your goals while working with yourself {your strengths, vision, etc.} rather than against yourself {following “conventional” advice, which may or may not be serving you}.
This full moon in Aries also connects back with the solar eclipse in Aries earlier this year. Think back to the themes and events of your life around the end of March and beginning of April; is there an echo of those themes or something related to those events currently arising for you? We’ve also just exited an eclipse season, and may still be working through some of the changes and transformations that it stirred up; this October full moon is likely to bring even more shifts and changes.
Astro-Tarot influences for the full moon in Aries
To throw some more light on the October full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aries full moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Four of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Emperor, which is associated with Aries.

The Daily Pause Oracle
A beautifully designed 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, give you a word or an idea to reflect on as you go about your day. Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing. There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.
These cards juxtapose the responsibilities of leadership with the importance of celebrating our wins — a scenario that anyone in a corporate job is likely to be rather familiar with. An Employee of the Month award is a prime example of this juxtaposition — a way for the leadership to motivate employees, while the recipient of said award is expected to build on their performance and deliver further excellence.
While there are shades of a capitalistic hellscape in this approach to employee recognition and rewards — seeing as you have to go “above and beyond” your job description, which means either taking on projects over and above your normal workload or working longer hours, with the built-in understanding that doing “more” will bring you rewards — this is a scenario that often plays out in our inner worlds as well.
Most of us have an inner task master who is rarely satisfied no matter what we do or achieve. We can always be a little more productive, cross just one more item off our never ending to-do lists, or go that extra mile for our families and friends. We’ve well and truly absorbed the tenets of corporate capitalistic greed and infused it into our daily lives.
This Aries full moon illuminates this fallacy in our thinking. Yes, it is important to be productive, to set and follow personal goals, but our constant focus on production and productivity is misguided. We have to learn to care for and maintain our environments, bodies and relationships too. That, too, is “productive” — an act of maintenance and care. As Jenny Odell writes in How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, “We inhabit a culture that privileges novelty and growth over the cyclical and the regenerative. Our very idea of productivity is premised on the idea of producing something new, whereas we do not tend to see maintenance and care as productive in the same way.”
And that is because maintenance and care are antithetical to the capitalistic society in which we live. It is up to us to take back our attention; to redraw our boundaries; to re-orient our thinking. While we have to live in this capitalistic hellscape, there are ways in which we can resist — the quiet quitting trend is one example; no-buy and low-buy years, also known as depth years, are another.
In what other ways can you or do you resist the capitalistic hellscape in which we live?
This Aries full moon also rolls in with some fiery power, inspiring forward momentum, especially in areas where you may have been feeling stuck or stagnant.
Both Mars and Pluto are squaring the moon, amplifying Aries’ natural fiery spirit and pushing us to dig deep to find our truth.
On the global stage, this combination can further stir political tensions. Things could get even more volatile in the Middle East, there could be protests or uprisings in other parts of the world, and things could get more contentious in the run-up to the US Presidential elections.
On a personal level, if you’re facing a tough situation, things can become more heated up and tense. You may also notice a restlessness or an edge of aggression around the October full moon.
The wounded healer Chiron is also active around this lunation, and can bring a calming influence to all the fiery energy swirling around us at this time, reminding us that our wounds can become our light if we can channel our pain into purpose. And while some wounds may be too deep to fully heal, they can form the basis of the medicine that we can offer ourselves and the world — giving us the power to endure; to survive and thrive; to heal, teach, and, like Chiron, perhaps even sharpen our own intuition.

This symbol hints at hidden complications and the need to carefully consider what was said (or promised) and to see if it is actually possible to achieve in the real world.
There is a need to examine your particular situation carefully and discern if there is any hidden duplicity. Also look more closely at the outcomes of your actions or “promises” that were made to you or that you made to yourself — did you expect more than was delivered? Maybe what was delivered was not exactly what you expected? As Linda Hill writes in 360 Degrees of Wisdom: The Sabian Oracle, “One’s rational understanding and emotional desires and responses can often conflict with each other.” She goes on to write, “This Symbol often indicates a choice that arises between the heart and doing what you want to do and social obligation and knowing what’s right.”
