The August 2025 full moon falls in the sign of Aquarius. The independent, free-thinking Aquarius archetype encourages us to examine our inner wild self and celebrate everything that makes us unique. It is the archetype of the reformer, the idealist who strives for tolerance, unity, and a better and brighter society. And despite these rather lofty ideals, the Aquarius archetype isn’t afraid to get in there and get its hands dirty.
Spiritually, the Aquarius archetype teaches us how to be true to our own voice, to listen to and follow the calling of our own heart and soul. By learning how to tune in rather than out, by being true to the things that make us unique, we undertake the journey to individuation.
The August 2025 full moon also brings into focus the ways in which we communicate and the power of owning your voice. It isn’t always an easy thing, to speak your truth. It can bring up significant anxiety around how you are perceived; how your words translate; and what people may think of you. It can lead to fears of being “found out” or ostracized, neither of which is a rational fear!
You could also find yourself in a reflective mood at this time, teasing over a particular long-held belief or way of showing up in the world. Or perhaps, you may just need some time to rest or introspect. If that is the case, do honor that impulse.
Astrology and tarot influences for the August 2025 full moon
To throw some more light on the August full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aquarius full moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the Six of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Star, which is associated with Aquarius.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck
I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.
Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.
There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.
Looking at the 6 of Swords, my eyes are drawn to the water: smooth as a mirror as it moves towards the horizon, with ripples radiating from the oar of the boat. I notice the curved back of the woman sitting in the boat. Shoulders hunched up, as though to protect herself from the sharp sting of sorrow.
The rendering of the water reminds me of the sharp grief that’s dodged my heels all of last month, with the promise of a gentle easing…healing…to come…a promise of renewal made, too, by The Star.
That’s the essence of this month’s full moon — a soothing, cleansing, healing lunation that brings a powerful release and a sense of closure to any heavy energy we have been carrying this year.
This full moon comes on the heels of the Lion’s Gate Portal, and carries the lingering energy of the rising of the star Sirius, our spiritual sun, which symbolizes the rebirth of our spiritual energy. The opening of the Lion’s Gate Portal is believed to help open our energy centers, inspire new ideas, and enhance our intuitive abilities and connection to spiritual guidance.
With the full moon and Pluto both lighting up the third house, old mental loops or inherited or internalized narratives may surface for release. Neptune and Saturn are also active at this time, lending a dreamy yet grounded energy to this Aquarius full moon.
Womanrunes for the August 2025 full moon in Aquarius
Every full moon, I will draw a Womanrune for us, as a theme, a learning, a focus point for the days until the next full moon rolls around. This month, I drew Rune 10: The Wheel. Rune of Fate.
This is a wonderful rune to draw at this time, with the opening of the Lion’s Gate portal and the gentle, healing energy that is available to us. Though we are often faced with adversities and challenges — that is a necessary part of the human condition — we are also all visited by grace: a moment of clarity, of comfort, of knowing that we are part of a vast and gentle universe.
The Wheel is a reminder that we are not always in control. That sometimes, there are forces outside of us, directing our lives. And though we can, and do, sometimes experience challenges that bring us to our knees, with time and help and healing — and grace — we also experience many a blessing throughout our lives.
The Wheel also alerts us that change is coming. It may feel like destiny, may confirm something that feels like it was meant to be. Pay attention to the smaller and larger patterns around you — to the turning of seasons, the passage of time, the evolution of life cycles and changes. Roll with the wheel, and let the path unfold around you.

The Womanrunes were created by Shekhinah Mountainwater in 1987. There were originally no written interpretations available for these runes, other than the name and one word meanings, which offer tremendous scope for personal interpretation. The remastered original hand drawn Womanrunes can be purchased here. Molly Remer subsequently wrote Womanrunes: A Guide to Their Use and Interpretation, based on her own meditations and interpretations of the runes. Her book is available on Amazon and Etsy.
