Plus an astrology and tarot forecast, new moon ritual, and herbal lore for the Libra new moon.

The October 2025 new moon falls in the sign of Libra. The Libra archetype is closely associated with justice and maintaining balance in social interactions and within the self. They are the true diplomats among the zodiac archetypes, and focus on fair dealings in all their relationships.
Spiritually, the Libra archetype teaches the principle of intimate balance, of the ability to remain centered and true to yourself no matter what may be going on around you. This is a skill that can be particularly helpful for those of us who turn up our noses at societal expectations as we dance to the tune of our own drum beat. Being able to remain centered is also an important skill to have if you’re surrounded by toxic people — and in these times, even toxic politics! One of the easiest ways to remain centered is through the breath, and by being able to distinguish between the things that are in your control, and those that aren’t.
This new moon also highlights our work life, daily schedules, and wellbeing. If you’re currently working, especially in a job or providing a service of some kind, take a moment to reflect on how you are feeling with regards to your work. Are you overworked? Bored and de-motivated? Thriving and striving? Pay particular attention to any feelings associated with your work life and career goals during this Libra new moon.
Also consider your daily schedules. Do you have some spaciousness in your days? Some time to create, to rest, to pursue your hobbies? Are there things you want to drop from your to-do list, or little rituals or habits that you want to incorporate?
This Libra new moon is also a good time to focus on taking better care of our health — fitness, eating well, scheduling any overdue health checks, are all encouraged during this lunation.
Astrology and tarot influences for the October 2025 Libra moon
To throw some more light on the astrology of the new moon in Libra, let’s take a look at the astrological and tarot influences of this lunation. The new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the 4 of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Justice, which is associated with Libra.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck
I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.
Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.
There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.
The 4 of Swords is associated with rest, but it goes beyond just physical rest. While physical rest, periods of leisure, and exquisite self-care are important, I think of the 4 of Swords as rest from the mental chatter, which, let’s be honest, can be exhausting!
Caught in mental loops and spiraling thought patterns, we can easily turn periods of leisure into fraught battlegrounds, as we question our worth and purpose, and struggle to find meaning in our days.
But looking at the figure on this card, I think what it’s asking of us is to put our worries down for a while. To engage, perhaps, in mindful moments — doodling, zentangling, gardening, cooking — with presence. Getting out of our thoughts and into the body, into the present moment, with mindful action.
Our worries and our mental loops can sends us into spirals of doom, blinding us to the beauty that exists in each moment, to the tiny blessings that often grace even the hardest of days. This isn’t about negating what’s hard, but rather about pausing…noticing…quieting the harsh voices in our minds…and perhaps being a bit more objective in our outlook.
With her sword held high and her scales perfectly balanced, the lady of Justice shows us the way.
Instead of mentally berating ourselves for past mistakes, for imagined failings {or actual ones}, for getting stuck in the trap of comparisonitis, perfectionitis, and questions of worth, she guides us towards objectivity, towards clarity of thought and intention. She reminds us that instead of getting trapped in our mental loops, we can learn from past experiences and grow from them.
If there’s something you know you need to change, act on it. If you need a course correction but have been avoiding it for some reason, be honest about why you’re avoiding it, and then either stop berating yourself or take the next right action. This isn’t about perfect execution, but rather fair and honest undertakings — and honesty starts with the self.
These cards also highlight the need for kindness — with loved ones, our wider communities, and perhaps most importantly, with ourselves. But Justice also reminds us that kindness isn’t only about giving ourselves grace, it’s also about firmness, about doing the difficult, but important, thing.
This is particularly important to remember, as the Moon squares Jupiter, which could lead to a Pollyanna avoidance of problems and magical thinking. There’s no magic pill that will solve all of our problems, only we can do that, by taking the next right step, perhaps even with the help of loved ones or professionals, when needed.
Pluto is also active during this Libra new moon, but as it squares the Moon, it could highlight our mental loops and send us into a spiral of doom. Balancing this energy, in true Libra fashion, is the wounded healer, Chiron, which brings us some incredibly healing energy.
Chiron’s vibrations can help us find our golden shadow — the power and strength in our wounds. His story is one of hope, a potent reminder that our wounds don’t define us, that our mental chatter doesn’t have to imprison us, and that we have the ability to find our way forward even when things feel hopeless.
This isn’t about avoidance or bypassing; instead, Chiron encourages us to own our wounds and to turn them into portals of strength, wisdom and inspiration.

Herbal medicine for the Libra new moon
Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb I chose for the October 2025 new moon is Dandelion, which is ruled by Chiron.
Dandelion is a survivor — it has an extraordinary ability to withstand hardship and thrive in disturbed environments. It reminds us that we can thrive regardless of our circumstances…that we can take ownership over our wounds, eventually find gratitude in the lessons, and use our wounding to define the purpose and healing we can share with our loved ones and communities, if we so choose.
Dandelion reminds us to draw strength from our pain, and is the perfect herb to work with given the energies swirling around this lunation.
Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

Ritual for the new moon in Libra
For this new moon, I offer you a simple creative ritual for grounding and introspection.
You will need:
- A journal or sketchbook
- A simple black pen
- A timer (the one on your phone works perfectly)
- Your favorite playlist
- A beverage of your choice (optional)
The ritual:
Find a quiet space where you can sit comfortably and work in your sketchbook. Close your eyes and take three deep, slow breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth. Drop your shoulders…unclench your jaw…feel your soften…allow your mind settle, even just a little.
Take a few moments to simply notice your thoughts. No judgment, just notice…are there any repetitive thoughts, old worries, judgments of self or others? Simply notice.
Turn on your playlist, set a 15 minute timer, open your sketchbook and doodle. Make patterns, Zentangles, sketch, draw repeated hashmarks on the page, or just let your pen swirl on the page however it wants to.
What you do doesn’t really matter, just that you allow the movement of the pen to absorb your attention and quieten your thoughts.
The objective of this exercise is NOT to make art or draw anything. Think of it as grounding and mindfulness in motion.
If your mind wanders or your inner critic or other negative voices start rising, gently bring your attention back to the page, to the pen, the movement of your hand.
Once the timer goes off, take a deep breath. Notice any change in how you’re feeling. Has your mental chatter calmed down? Do you feel a bit rested, perhaps?
Take a moment to quickly jot down anything that arises. In this moment of grounding, enjoy your beverage, while reminding yourself that you can find peace in something as simple as allowing your pen to dance across the page.
