The December 2025 new moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius. The freedom loving Sagittarius archetype is in a constant search for inspiration, new avenues of exploration, and adventure. This is a sign that gets bored of the status quo easily, and needs the rush of a new quest to keep them on their toes.
Spiritually, the Sagittarius archetype teaches us to cultivate our own personal relationship with the divine. Contrary to what most religions and a lot of spiritual teachers say, you don’t need an intermediary between you and Source/God/the Universe. You have that connection available to you at all times. Learning to tune in and trust that connection is where a lot of us seem to stumble, though.
This new moon also highlights your voyage of self-discovery: who you are, who you’re becoming, how do you realize your best self? It’s an excellent time to shine some light on your unique personality traits, the things about yourself that you want to change, and perhaps more importantly, to consider how you can achieve your goals while working with yourself {your strengths, vision, etc.} rather than against yourself {following “conventional” advice, which may or may not be serving you}.
Astrology and tarot forecast for the December 2025 new moon
To throw some more light on the December new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astrological and tarot-related influences of this lunation. The Sagittarius new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Ten of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Temperance, which is associated with Sagittarius.

Some days you pull a tarot card and… nothing.
You stare at it, wondering what it’s trying to tell you — and whether you’re even asking the right questions.
If that’s you, Conversations with the Soul: 365 Tarot Journaling Prompts for Reflection and Renewal will change the way you read your cards.
It gives you a full year of thoughtful, creative prompts that help your readings feel richer, clearer, and more personal — one card, one question, one moment of insight at a time.
I don’t know about you, but I’m approaching the end of the year feeling somewhat over-stimulated and overwhelmed. I couldn’t even say exactly why — it’s probably a cocktail of all the things I’m carrying, the general frenzy of the holiday season, all the sales emails flooding my inbox, the state of the world…you know…All. The. Things.
All I know is that I identify with that guy on the 10 of Wands, weighed down under the burden of everything he is carrying.
But then my eyes land on the Temperance card. On the little disk on the angel’s crown. And it feels like a point of focus. As I let my gaze soften on that point, I feel my shoulders gently relax, my jaw unclench, a mantle of calmness fall over my entire being.
That’s what the energy of this new moon feels like…a call to set down the metaphorical sticks you’re carrying, to rest for a while, and then examine the sticks in front of you before you decide which ones to pick up again.
Saturn is active during this lunation, reminding us of the need to maintain our boundaries, especially around the things and the people that drain us. Consider a bit of a digital detox if you can. Unsubscribe from newsletters that no longer align with who you are and what you want to focus on. If there are people or situations that stress you out, consider if you can avoid them or how you might minimize their impact. It may not be easy to establish firmer boundaries, especially with friends and family, during holiday season, but if you can, it will go a long way to calming your frazzled nerves.
Venus is also active during this lunation, so focusing on the beauty around you, finding tiny pockets of time to devote to your creativity, and making your surroundings more cozy may go some way towards soothing your frazzled nerves at this time.
As we step into the end of the year, may this new moon be a reminder to carry only what’s yours, move at your own pace, and honor what truly nourishes you. And if you’d like a thread to follow in the months ahead, the Conversations with the Soul: 365 Tarot Journaling Prompts for Reflection and Renewal ebook offers a year’s worth of questions to keep you aligned and attuned.
Herbal medicine for the Sagittarius new moon
Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb that I chose for the December 2025 new moon in Sagittarius is Horsetail, which is ruled by Saturn and Venus.
Horsetail was used as a food and a medicine, often cooked like a vegetable or chewed raw in springtime. Horsetail strengthens connective tissues such as skin, hair, and the cartilage, and was known as a bone mender in ancient times.
Horsetail teaches us of the power of patience and the endurance gained through the hidden blessings of challenges. There is something good in all seeming failures, and though that might not be immediately obvious, it will be revealed in time. Horsetail medicine provides us heightened sensitivity and the purity of trust, essential tools as we navigate life’s journey.
Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

Ritual for the new moon in Sagittarius
For this new moon, I offer you a gentle practice to set down what doesn’t serve and gain more clarity into what matters most.

Sign up for the Numinous Stardust!
Step into the rhythm of the moon with original tarot spreads, astro-tarot forecasts, rituals and journaling prompts delivered to your inbox each Full Moon and New Moon.
You will need:
A notebook + pen
The Temperance card
A comfortable place to sit down and write
The ritual:
Get out your tarot deck, preferably a Raider-Waite Smith or clone, though you can use any deck. Flip through your cards and pull out the Temperance card. Place it in front of you.
Sit comfortably. Let your gaze rest softly on the Temperance card. (If you’re using the Temperance card, let your gaze rest on the the glowing disk on Temperance’s crown.)
Breathe into your shoulders, jaw, and belly as you gaze at the card.
Let your burdens slowly fall away from your shoulders.
Pull out your journal, and write down everything that you’re mentally carrying…everything that feels overwhelming. All the tasks, worries, decisions, social obligations, emotional noise, digital overwhelm.
Pour it all out.
Once you’re done, take a few deep breaths. Gaze at the Temperance card once again, and ask yourself: “What here is mine? What here is too much? What do I wish to set down?
Look over your list once more.
Put a single dot next to the few things (3–5 max) that actually matter to you. The ones that feel nourishing or meaningful, that align with what you want more of in your life.
Then put a line through the things you can release for now. All the obligations that can wait, the expectations that are too heavy, the digital noise, the seasonal pressure.
Choose one small thing you can do in the next few days that adds beauty, coziness, or pleasure to your environment or body. Also choose one small thing you can do in the next few days to release the things you’re setting down — delegate responsibilities, spend 10 minutes unsubscribing from newsletters or accounts that are no longer aligned.
Write them down as your new moon invitation.
Take a final deep breath. Return the Temperance card to the deck. Put your journal and pen away, and go about the rest of your day.
