Tarot spread; astrology and tarot forecast; and ritual for the April 2026 new moon in Aries

The April 2026 new moon falls in the sign of Aries. The Aries archetype is known for its bold – often rash – action, for going where angels fear to tread. As the first sign of the zodiac, it represents the active core of our spiritual journey on earth, and teaches us to act in accordance with our ideals. The Aries archetype teaches us to be unafraid to march to our own drumbeat, to assert our willpower towards the attainment of our desires, and to embrace beginner’s mind and the innate trust and explosive power {conviction + action} that is needed to start something new.

Spiritually, the Aries archetype teaches us about action. And as most of us know, it’s easier to talk about the things we want to do than to put in the work and actually do the thing! Aries teaches us that courage is the key to unlocking the full potential of this spiritual principle. And that comes from connecting your head to your heart, focusing your will, and taking consistent action towards your dreams.

This new moon also highlights our sense of purpose and belonging. The ways in which we show up for ourselves and others. The things, great or small, that we accomplish for ourselves or within the wider world. It also highlights our partnerships — the people and ideas we collaborate and partner with, learn from, create with.

This new moon is a good time to consider the various relationships, collaborators, colleagues, and mentors who are part of your life, to think about why you’re maintaining the relationships you’re in, and how these relationships can enhance your life, make them fuller, and make these relationships even better for everyone involved.

Astrology and tarot influences for the new moon in Aries

To throw some more light on the April new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Aries new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Four of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Emperor, which is associated with Aries.

These cards juxtapose the responsibilities of leadership with the importance of celebrating our wins — a scenario that anyone in a corporate job is likely to be rather familiar with. An “Employee of the Month” award is a prime example of this juxtaposition — a way for the leadership to motivate employees, while the recipient of said award is expected to build on their performance and deliver further excellence.

While there are shades of a capitalistic hellscape in this approach to employee recognition and rewards — seeing as you have to go “above and beyond” your job description, which means either taking on projects over and above your normal workload or working longer hours, with the built-in understanding that doing “more” will bring you rewards — this is a scenario that often plays out in our inner worlds as well.

Most of us have an inner task master who is rarely satisfied no matter what we do or achieve. We can always be a little more productive, cross just one more item off our never ending to-do lists, or go that extra mile for our families and friends. We’ve well and truly absorbed the tenets of corporate capitalistic greed and infused it into our daily lives.

This Aries new moon can help up start to repair this fallacy in our thinking. Yes, it is important to be productive, to set and follow personal goals, but our constant focus on production and productivity is misguided. We have to learn to care for and maintain our environments, bodies and relationships too. That, too, is “productive” — an act of maintenance and care. As Jenny Odell writes in How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, “We inhabit a culture that privileges novelty and growth over the cyclical and the regenerative. Our very idea of productivity is premised on the idea of producing something new, whereas we do not tend to see maintenance and care as productive in the same way.”

And that is because maintenance and care are antithetical to the capitalistic society in which we live. It is up to us to take back our attention; to redraw our boundaries; to re-orient our thinking. While we have to live in this capitalistic hellscape, there are ways in which we can resist — no-buy and low-buy years, also known as depth years, are one example.

In what other ways can you or do you resist the capitalistic hellscape in which we live?

Astrologically, the Moon is square Pluto, which makes things somewhat complicated. While you may have, in the past, railed against the capitalist machine, now, with economic uncertainty, the threat of AI, and unstable geopolitics, you may not be feeling so rebellious. If 2020 was the year of the Great Resignation and quiet quitting, 2026 is the year of job hugging — employees choosing to stay in their current positions despite being unhappy or unmotivated, driven by fear of economic instability and a challenging job market.

When times are uncertain, we tend to cling to anything that makes us feel safe, even if it’s toxic. And while job hugging may be a workplace trend, and may not be applicable to you, the psychology behind it may be on point.

The astrology at this time is reflective of this tension — a desire for bold new beginnings contrasting with a deep instinct to maintain control. You could feel a tension between a desire for movement, to take a risk, to live a more self-directed life that is closer to your values. But Pluto could complicate that impulse, surfacing fears around loss, power, and consequence.

Chiron is also active at this time, bringing an added layer of vulnerability, touching on old wounds around self-worth, rejection, and the fear of getting it wrong. The result is a kind of internal stalemate: we want change, but we don’t fully trust ourselves to handle what that change might ask of us.

This is where personal sovereignty comes into focus. This Aries new moon is not necessarily about making a grand, rebellious gesture, but rather, a series of smaller, quieter, more aligned choices. We may not be able to fully opt out of the systems we exist within, but we can begin to notice where we are operating from fear and conditioning. The work at this time is not to force change, nor to stay stuck out of habit, but to develop the discernment to know the difference.

Herbal medicine for the Aries new moon

Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb that I chose for the April 2026 new moon in Aries is Ayahuasca, an ancient ceremonial brew native to the Amazon that is used as a sacred spiritual brew among many indigenous people in South America.

This brew, which is usually made up of a couple of different herbs, is traditionally prepared for curing ills, divination, and as a diagnostic tool for healing others. It has primarily been used to rejuvenate the body and soul, as well as to purge the body of accumulated toxicity.

Ayahuasca helps us master the power of awareness when aligning with a Higher Power, and helps reveal the undiscovered terrain within your soul.

In recent times, the plant has been misused and mis-represented by “white Shamans”, but approaching the spirit of Ayahuasca with respect can help illuminate the shadows and bring light to the darker places in our psyche.

Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

The ritual:

Sit somewhere quiet. Light a candle, and take a few deep breaths to arrive in this space.

Once you feel present/centered, ask yourself: Where in my life am I feeling tension right now?

Don’t judge your responses, simply notice them.

On a piece of paper, answer the following questions:

  • What am I gripping tightly right now?
  • Where am I staying because it feels safer than changing?

Take your time to let your thoughts spill onto the page.

On a second piece of paper, complete this sentence a few times: If I let this go, I’m afraid that…

You may be tempted to write this 2-3 times; go beyond that. You’re trying to go beyond surface answers and get to the heart of your fears.

Now pause and look over both pages.

Then choose one of these action:

Option A: Release

If you’re ready to loosen your grip, tear the fear page. As you do so, repeat: This fear may feel real. It may even be real. But I refuse to act from a place of fear.

Option B: Witness

If you’re not ready to release your fears just yet, fold the page and keep it in your journal or planner, or somewhere else where you can see it.

The goal is to be aware of your fears, and to work to address them. You don’t have to force a transformation if that feels uncomfortable or unsafe at this time.

Now, on a fresh piece of paper, write: One small way I choose to show up differently is…

Keep it very real. You could choose:

  • a boundary
  • stopping at a reasonable time
  • saying no
  • doing less, on purpose

Do something simple to mark this choice:

Place the paper somewhere you’ll see it — on your altar, taped up to your mirror, or as a post-it note in your planner.

The goal is to remember how you’re choosing to show up.

Before you close this ritual and blow out your candle, sit for a moment and acknowledge:

I may still feel fear. I may still hesitate before I act. But I am not entirely without choice.

Now, take one final deep breath and blow out your candle.
