Plus an astrology and tarot forecast, journal prompts, and Womanrunes reading for the Scorpio full moon.

The May 2026 full moon falls in the sign of Scorpio. The Scorpio archetype is known for its intense power and its ability to transform, much like the butterfly emerging from its cocoon, ready to fly. The Scorpio archetype isn’t afraid of the birth-death-rebirth cycle, for it is only when parts of us die and are reborn that we can fully transform.
So perhaps it’s not surprising that spiritually, the Scorpio archetype teaches us to surrender — to align our human will with divine will. It can teach us that sometimes our human trials can reveal a need for deep healing. This is not always easy to live with or to understand, especially when the need for healing arises from trauma, and yet on the other side of working with and healing trauma there can be deep and valuable transformation.
This full moon also highlights our standing in the world, and with it, our personal sphere of influence and power. It also lights up our role in society and the ways in which we contribute to the world. Some of us contribute boldly, through activism, teaching, sharing of wisdom and knowledge, others in gentle, smaller ways, among our families and communities. Both ways of being in the world are necessary and valid.
This full moon also asks us to take a closer look at our vocation, and to see if we are in right relationship with it. To ask ourselves what we want to focus on, to determine what role our vocation, which I see as somewhat different to a career, though a career can be a vocation, plays in our life.
Astrology and tarot influences for the May 2026 full moon in Scorpio
To throw some more light on the May full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Scorpio full moon falls in Decan 2, which is ruled by the 6 of Cups. This is to be seen in conjunction with Death, which is associated with Scorpio.

Some days you pull a tarot card and… nothing.
You stare at it, wondering what it’s trying to tell you — and whether you’re even asking the right questions.
If that’s you, Conversations with the Soul: 365 Tarot Journaling Prompts for Reflection and Renewal will change the way you read your cards.
It gives you a full year of thoughtful, creative prompts that help your readings feel richer, clearer, and more personal — one card, one question, one moment of insight at a time.
I’ve been thinking about the Death card, and about how our first instinct is to flinch when it comes up, until we remember that it just means change — like the seasons and the cycles, inevitable, a constant part of the human experience.
But I’ve been thinking about that flinch, and about the body’s wisdom, and wondering if our body actually recognizes something in that symbol that does cause some discomfort, something that we’ve intellectually trained ourselves to ignore.
And as I’m thinking about this, I realize that I don’t always experience that flinch when I draw the Death card. There are many times when I can take it in my stride, when it isn’t unexpected because I am aware of the currents of change, and that I am flowing in them. Then, it comes as confirmation that I am still within that cycle of death…there’s still some way to go before the rebirth.
But when I experience the flinch, like I did when I remembered that Scorpio is ruled by Death, I pay attention. Something’s about to change, and I am either not expecting it or I’m not going to like it or it’s going to push me in ways that make me uncomfortable and force me out of my comfort zones or I am likely to actively resist it. But change is coming, because that’s what it does.
So how can we prepare ourselves to meet it? To not crumble under the relentlessness, the inevitability, of Death…of change?
The clue is in the 6 of Cups, in that little moment of stopping to smell the roses. Of noticing — and appreciating — beauty. Of sucking out all the marrow of life, as Thoreau put it.
So in the midst of the swirling currents of this full moon, remind yourself to notice the moments of beauty that surround you. To notice the sunlight as it hits your window; the butterfly hovering outside your door; the birds chirping on the trees; the sun as it rises and falls; and remember that change will take its course.
You will have to be more intentional about noticing the beauty around this full moon, as the Moon forms an inconjunction with Venus, creating a “blind spot,” requiring constant adjustment and creating some inner tension. This is to be expected, especially for sensitive souls who are already carrying the weight of collective uncertainty.
As if that wasn’t enough, Pluto is squaring off with the Moon, which could create a power struggle in relationships or at work, or a push you to confront something that you’ve long avoided. There’s some sort of purging process that could take place around this time, and if you have the courage to face whatever is arising with compassion and wisdom, there is an opportunity for change.
Jupiter, the planet of abundance and expansion, offers some hope — a different perspective, and the chance for healing and growth. Emotions could run deep during this Scorpio full moon, but you do have access to wisdom, and the ability to flow with change instead of fighting it.
If you do, you will make it to other side a little more easily, though the ride may still be bumpy. But create those little intentional moments of beauty to hold on to — those will lighten the path ahead.
Womanrunes for the May 2026 full moon in Scorpio
Every full moon, I will draw a Womanrune for us, as a theme, a learning, a focus point for the days until the next full moon rolls around. This month, I drew Rune 8: The Box. Rune of Limitation.

Step into the rhythm of the moon with original tarot spreads, astro-tarot forecasts, rituals and journaling prompts delivered to your inbox each Full Moon and New Moon.
The Box echoes some of the themes we’ve been discussing so far. The unwillingness to change, and also the need for firm boundaries. The Box embodies both. So have a think about what you need at this time — do you need to say no to something? To be more open to the currents of change? To firm up your boundaries with someone?
Consider, too, if you’re limiting yourself or your growth in any way, and then take a more courageous, bold view and see how you can walk yourself out of those self-imposed shackles. You may need to ask for help or support from family or from a therapist or professional; but taking that step at this time will be helpful.
The Womanrunes were created by Shekhinah Mountainwater in 1987. There were originally no written interpretations available for these runes, other than the name and one word meanings, which offer tremendous scope for personal interpretation. The remastered original hand drawn Womanrunes can be purchased here. Molly Remer subsequently wrote Womanrunes: A Guide to Their Use and Interpretation, based on her own meditations and interpretations of the runes. Her book is available on Amazon and Etsy.
