The October 2026 new moon falls in the sign of Libra. The Libra archetype is closely associated with justice and maintaining balance in social interactions and within the self. They are the true diplomats among the zodiac archetypes, and focus on fair dealings in all their relationships.

Spiritually, the Libra archetype teaches the principle of intimate balance, of the ability to remain centered and true to yourself no matter what may be going on around you. This is a skill that can be particularly helpful for those of us who turn up our noses at societal expectations as we dance to the tune of our own drum beat. Being able to remain centered is also an important skill to have if you’re surrounded by toxic people — and in these times, even toxic politics! One of the easiest ways to remain centered is through the breath, and by being able to distinguish between the things that are in your control, and those that aren’t.

The energy around this particular new moon is both playful and profound. While the October 2026 new moon highlights our creativity and creative expression, it also asks us to examine our life choices and responsibilities.

We could find ourselves pulled between tending to our responsibilities and getting more organized and wanting to focus on our creative pursuits and hobbies. There’s a possibility, too, that both these areas may be intertwined.

Ultimately, this Libra new moon is a good time to look at the ways in which we can take better care of ourselves. Make some time to explore what brings you joy and satisfaction, and do more of that! Balance that with your responsibilities and obligations, and you’re gold!

Astrology and tarot influences for the October 2026 new moon in Libra

To throw some more light on the astrology of the new moon in Libra, let’s take a look at the astrology and tarot influences of this lunation. The Libra new moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the 3 of Swords. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Justice, which is associated with Libra.

When we look at the Three of Swords, our first instinct is, perhaps, to think of fresh heartbreak…an unexpected grief or sadness. But often, our hearts are pierced by old wounds, patterns, and belief systems that we have inherited from our environment and culture that are no longer true for us.

These wounds often scab over with time, but can easily be scratched open. Harsh self-talk, falling into old, harmful behavior patterns, strangling our dreams or desires before even trying to make them work can all re-open old wounds.

Pair this with Justice, and the question becomes, are you being fair to yourself when you break open your scabs? Is your self talk helpful or harmful? Is the second-guessing of your dreams coming from a place of practicality or fear?

These questions are even more pertinent at this time as we also have a Venus retrograde, which can be a challenging period, as we come up against uncomfortable situations that can challenge how we think about ourselves or others.

Interestingly, this lunar cycle starts on the 10th day of the 10th month, also known as the 10/10 portal, which is associated with new beginnings and fresh foundations. This means that the October 2026 Libra new moon is an especially potent time to set some goals or build a vision board, and then actually take steps in the direction of those goals and visions.

Saturn is also active during this lunation, lending us support to take responsibility for and action towards the life we wish to create.

Ritual for the new moon in Libra

For this new moon, I offer you a slightly non-standard Vision Boarding ritual.

You will need:

Your journal and pen

A large sheet of paper and magazines

Scissors

Glue

Your planner/calendar app

Note: You can also make your vision board digitally on Canva and print it out.

The ritual:

Before you make your vision board, set a 10 minute timer and answer this question in your journal:

If I stopped letting old stories decide what is possible for me, what would I want?

Don’t try and be practical or sensible, don’t worry if what you’re writing is achievable. Just allow yourself to imagine without immediately editing the possibilities.

Once the timer goes off, read back over what you’ve written and look for the things that have a little charge around them. Circle them, and list them out on the next page in your journal

Then ask yourself: Why do I want this? What would become possible if I have this?

For example, “I want to make more art” might lead to “I want more freedom to follow my curiosity.”

“I want to travel” might become “I want more adventure and novelty in my life.”

You’re looking for the quality of life underneath the goal. List them out, then spend choose 3–5 qualities, experiences, or possibilities that you want to invite into this next cycle.

Now gather images, words, colours, textures — anything that evokes the life you’re moving towards.

You could make this in your journal or on a sheet of paper, or create a digital board on Canva if that’s more enjoyable.

As you’re collecting images and words for your vision board, make sure they are not just pretty, but meaningful to you.

Once you’ve finished your vision board, take a few moments to soak it in, and consider what one to three things you can do this month that would move you closer to this life.

Choose things that are concrete and doable within this lunar cycle (roughly a month).

Then open your planner or calendar app and schedule those things in.

To close out this ritual, put your vision board somewhere where you will see it over the coming lunar cycle, so you can stay connected to the life you’re choosing to make room for. If you made your vision board in your journal, you can photograph it and print it out or set it as a phone screensaver. Same thing if you made it digitally.
