December 2020: Tarot spread for the new moon in Sagittarius

Tarot spread for the December 2020 new moon in Sagittarius

The December 2020 new moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius. The freedom loving Sagittarius archetype is in a constant search for inspiration, new avenues of exploration, and adventure. This is a sign that gets bored of the status quo easily, and needs the rush of a new quest to keep them on their toes.

Spiritually, the Sagittarius archetype teaches us to cultivate our own personal relationship with the divine. Contrary to what most religions and a lot of spiritual teachers say, you don’t need an intermediary between you and Source/God/the Universe. You have that connection available to you at all times. Learning to tune in and trust that connection is where a lot of us seem to stumble, though.

This month, we also have a solar eclipse, which will be visible in Chile and some parts of Argentina. Some regions in southern South America, south-west Africa, and Antarctica will see a partial solar eclipse. Solar eclipses typically lend extra oomph to the New Moon, helping us to break habitual patterns, bringing in an awakening of sorts, and offering us a cosmic reboot. The themes that we were working with six months ago will also come into focus, highlighting the all the ways in which we have grown and developed since then.

The November 2020 new moon also highlights our creativity and creative expression. It brings our personal pleasure and self-satisfaction to the forefront, highlighting all the little moments and things that bring us beauty and joy.

This is a wonderful time to focus in on our creative pursuits and hobbies, as well as on the ways in which we can take better care of ourselves. Make some time to explore what brings you joy and satisfaction, and do more of that! In a world that thrives on drama, doing “nothing” {i.e. the simple things that are meaningful and important to you} can be a radical act of rebellion.

Astro-tarot influences for the December 2020 new moon

To throw some more light on the December new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Sagittarius new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Ten of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Temperance, which is associated with Sagittarius.

The 10 of Wands represents overwhelm – a time when we may be feeling overburdened and weighed down with everything that is on our plate. It also indicates the necessity for that final push as we are approaching our goals. Temperance represents an inner stillness and balance. It carries a soothing and calming energy, and represents rest, healing, and rejuvenation.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

This Sagittarius new moon brings into focus everything that the June full moon brought up for release. If there are still any areas that we have not fully resolved, or have simply brushed under the carpet, they are likely to rear their head again. At the same time, some of the seeds that were sown may well start to bear fruit. One way that this is playing out on the global stage is through the recent lockdown measures that have been implemented in parts of Europe and elsewhere in the world, and the positive news that has started to emerge from the vaccine trials – a BothAnd moment, playing out right here in the collective.

In what areas and in what ways are you noticing BothAnd moments in your own life? It could be in tangible material world circumstances, as well as in old stories and patterns that are coming up once more for a final clearing and transformation.

The December 2020 new moon also highlights the need for balance. There are times when we all feel overburdened and overextended with everything that is on our plates – that’s just the way life is. Add to that a clusterfuck of a year and the heaviness in the collective, and it can feel like too much to bear.

Step back for a while. Unplug from the news for a day. Allow yourself to just be fully present in your life – alive to the sensations, the small pleasures, the activities that make your heart feel full. Try creating an at-home retreat for yourself.

Here are some resources to help you:

Even a short retreat, or a day spent unplugged and simply focused on your own life can help to ground you, making it a little easier to get back into the thick of this messy, unruly life that is happening all around us. We don’t have to check-out of it – we need only to find ways to remain in our centre as we navigate through it all.

This is such a sweet symbol of bliss, of a comfortable home, and a sense of belonging. There are times when it can feel like a mirage that seems ever out of reach.

I see this symbol as a reminder of fortune – the many blessings, big and small, sprinkled through our life. There are times when we pass through the shadows, but we do eventually emerge into the sunlight. That hope is what we need to hold on to, to remind ourselves that even if things feel fraught and fragile right now, we may wake up to see a bluebird chirping away on our door.

And then there’s fortune and the many clichés that surround it. What seems like blind luck or fortune on the outside is more often than not careful and considered choices, and the grit and determination to stick to the path on the inside. In this way, fortune does indeed favour the bold.
