December 2020: Tarot spread for the full moon in Cancer

Tarot spread for the December 2020 full moon in Cancer

The December 2020 full moon falls in the sign of Cancer. The Cancer archetype is emotional, intuitive, nurturing and healing. It also symbolizes “home” and all the things that home represents – not just our physical home, but also our emotions, energy, body, and the spiritual hearth of our souls.

Spiritually, the Cancer archetype is one of compassion, of recognizing that people, in general, act to the best of their abilities, limited by their education, upbringing and current awareness. The Cancer archetype knows that love and forgiveness, where possible, are the best way to respond to destructive behavior – along with firm boundaries, of course.

The December 2020 full moon also highlights our health and wellness, as well as our ability to cope in the face of adversity. Coming as it does at the tail end of the year of a global pandemic, this full moon is a reminder to not let our guard down. Mask on, wash your hands, stay indoors as much as possible.

This Cancer full moon is also a reminder to take some time off, to rest, to just drop into your body – feet on the floor, hands on heart, and breathe deeply. We are going to be ok.

This is also a good time to up your exercise regime, take gentle care of this soft animal of your body, fill up with nourishing food and the warm embrace – real or virtual – of loved ones.

Astro-tarot influences for the December 2020 full moon

To throw some more light on the December full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Cancer full moon falls in decan 1, which is represented by the Two of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Chariot, which is associated with Cancer.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

The 2 of Cups represents relationships, not just of the romantic kind, but also friendships, partnerships, and collaborative efforts. There’s a sweetness to this card, the promise of happy beginnings. The Chariot represents tenacity, focus, and strategy. But it could also represent hard exterior mask or persona that conceals a vulnerable or confused heart.

This, to me, represents the need to allow ourselves to crack open. It’s been a difficult year, and as we near the end of 2020, a number of countries have started to go into lockdown – again.

There’s a weariness that may be starting to creep in – even among those of us who have been able to go through the year relatively unscathed. Which makes it important to allow yourself to feel the full expression of your emotions. Sometimes, a good cleansing cry can lighten the heaviness that builds up in our hearts.

It’s also a good idea to release any residual fears, hurt, anguish under the light of this full moon. Try to spend some time with a journal and pen, writing out and releasing anything that is emotionally charged and painful. Then take the paper and burn it, or tear it and flush it down the toilet. It’s a good way to symbolically release all that no longer serves us.

But this full moon isn’t just doom and gloom. It also brings us the opportunity to plant the seeds of new intentions – to dream and plan for the coming year. To get in touch with our heart, our soul, our most precious dreams and visions and start to imagine them into life. Because if there’s one thing this year has thought us, it is that life is uncertain and putting off our dreams until the illusion of a perfect time is a sure shot way to ensure our dreams may never become our reality.

Spend the last few days of this year – and perhaps even the first few days of the new year – to set some plans in motion.

Sabian Symbol for the December 2020 full moon in Cancer

The Sabian Symbol for Cancer 8 degrees is A Small Naked Girl Bends Over A Pond Trying To Catch A Fish.

This symbol reminds me of wonder and innocence, curiosity, and delight. Just like a fish can be a slippery prey to catch, however, there are times when we may be unable to grasp the meaning of certain events in our lives. This symbol is a reminder to retain a sense of curiosity about what’s unfolding.

There’s also a reminder here about tapping in to the innocence of your soul and to approach life without inhibitions. To be as playful, curious, and open hearted as you can while navigating through life.

The image I have is of wide-eyed wonder and an all-encompassing feeling of being a child of the Universe. Even in difficult times, when it seems like all hope is lost and we’ve been abandoned, retaining that kernel of faith is often the spark of light we need as we find our way back home.
