Tarot spread and astro-tarot forecast for the December 2022 new moon in Capricorn

The December 2022 new moon falls in the sign of Capricorn. Symbolized by the mountain goat, which maintains perfect balance while it climbs over precarious rock ledges, the Capricorn archetype is one of disciplined and dogged determination towards the attainment of our worldly desires.

Spiritually, the Capricorn archetype teaches us about integrity and helps us to harness the ability to plan our work, and stick to it, no matter what. In these times of 24×7 consumption culture, it’s easy to be addicted with shiny object syndrome and forget about our goals and plans. Capricorn teaches us about the meaning of integrity: to align ourselves with our highest ideals and actualize our potential.

This new moon also highlights our sense of purpose and belonging. The ways in which we show up for ourselves and others. The things, great or small, that we accomplish for ourselves or within the wider world. It also highlights our partnerships — the people and ideas we collaborate and partner with, learn from, create with.

This new moon is a good time to consider the various relationships, collaborators, colleagues, and mentors who are part of your life, to think about why you’re maintaining the relationships you’re in, and how these relationships can enhance your life, make them fuller, and make these relationships even better for everyone involved.

Astro-tarot influences for the Capricorn new moon

To throw some more light on the December new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Capricorn full moon falls in decan 1, which is represented by the Two of Pentacles. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Devil, which is associated with Capricorn.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

Interestingly, this December 2022 Capricorn new moon (Capricorn 1 degree) indicates a fresh start and the beginning of a new chapter. This makes it the perfect time to focus on what feels really important to you, given where you are in your life right now.

Use the power of this new moon to guide you through some of your year-end rituals: reflect on the year gone by, choose a word of the year, and plan for the coming year {you can download The Visioning Workbook to assist you with this }, do a year-ahead tarot spread, or choose a goddess or crystal of the year.

Also spend some time considering the things that really matter to you. As you approach the end of 2022, what do you feel like you really need? What were the lessons that 2022 brought? The highs and the lows? What areas do you wish to improve? What areas do you want to focus on? What is becoming important to you? What feels less important and urgent? {Again, The Visioning Workbook can help you with this.}

Don’t forget to factor in your energy levels and time commitments while you’re making your plans. I don’t know about you, but I tend to bite off more than I can comfortably chew. In the excitement of visioning my year, dreaming up all the projects I want to work on and ideas I want to explore, I tend to forget that I have a limited amount of free time between the demands of the 9 to 5 and managing the home to actually devote to all the things that interest me.

One of the things that I find helpful is to make a list of all the projects or goals that I want to work on in the new year. {My projects/goals tend to be personal, not work related.} I then go through them and rank them based on interest or importance, and plug the top 3-4 into my yearly goals calendar. I park the rest of them on a different page, so I can swap out goals if I feel like, or pick up a different project during the year if I have some open time and nothing on my current list feels inspiring. This system helps me to stay on track with the things that I find interesting, while also giving me the flexibility to change things up should I need to.

How do you set your goals? What systems or methods do you use to try and stay on track with them? And how can you build in some flexibility with your goal setting process? This Capricorn new moon can help you not just with setting some intentions to take you into the new year, but also with examining and tweaking your planning and goal setting systems.

In 360 Degrees of Wisdom: The Sabian Oracle, Lynda Hill writes, “With the shattering of the ‘Window’, there is often a loss of faith, hope and trust. Someone may have previously felt safe in the confines of their life and suddenly a “bomb hits”, breaking and demolishing some aspect of their usually safe and secure life. This situation may take considerable time to heal, although if the structure is sound, fixing the ‘Window’ (the place where the light gets in) can be done relatively quickly.”

She goes on to say, “the actual ‘Damage’ that this Symbol implies may have started long ago.” What this symbol points to, then, is the need for repair and healing. Maybe this past year — or the last few years cumulatively — has had its difficulties; maybe you feel the need for some rest, some quiet, some gentleness and softness. Allow yourself the time to sink into whatever healing balm your tender heart needs at this time.
