Lunar eclipses typically bring endings and closure, helping us to release things that no longer serve us. Expect sudden changes in consciousness, intuitive insights, and pattern-breaking a-has around this time. This eclipse is part of a bigger eclipse cycle with the solar eclipse in April 2023, and will continue at least until the last of the eclipses in 2024. If you’ve kept a record of your tarot spreads or journals, this would be a good time to go through them and see what was alive in you around that time. It will also be a good idea to keep a record of the eclipses and the themes and patterns that come up this year, so you can have a more holistic picture of the changes that are being wrought during this time.

The imagery on the 2 of Swords is rather appropriate for these times…for this over culture, within which we have to, quite literally, find ourselves…hear our own voice…our own thoughts, without having them hijacked by the next 7-second reel.

Untangling our lives and our identities from what we’ve been conditioned to focus on and chase, even when our heart isn’t really in it, is the work that we are being called to do during this Libra full moon eclipse. In fact, this is probably work that you’ve been doing for a while — under this Libra eclipse, you may finally be ready to let go of old patterns, habits or blocks; to make some new rules; or try and implement some new changes.

But this isn’t the easiest of tasks. There are times when we make a decision and still second guess ourselves. We don’t always trust the call to a life that looks different from the one that the overculture tells us we should want. It feels scary to make a change that we haven’t seen, somehow, modeled for us already. We feel unsure and confused about the validity of what we want and the choices we long to make.

So conditioned are we to the way things are “supposed” to be done, that we often balk at the voice that tells to take a different path. More often than not, we are worried that we are just giving up…convinced that if we just grin and bear it, take just one more step, maybe we will “make it”. Maybe things will turn around. Maybe this is just how it is supposed to be.

But it isn’t.

I’m not saying that life has to be easy, because it doesn’t and often isn’t, but if it all just feels like a constant uphill battle, like a treadmill that never stops, like a summit that is always just beyond your reach, maybe it is time to stop and reconsider what it is that you are chasing…or perhaps ignoring.

You may well find that the scared and reactive parts of you are related to your childhood wounds and early conditioning. But with the wounded healer Chiron active during this Libra full moon lunar eclipse, we have access to the medicine — the wisdom and compassion — that our wounded parts offer. We have the ability to self-soothe, to be a little less reactive, a little less fearful, and move a little more in the direction in which we really want to go. Perhaps with a little more ease.
