Tarot spread and astro-tarot forecast for the July 2024 new moon in Cancer

The July 2024 new moon falls in the sign of Cancer. The Cancer archetype is emotional, intuitive, nurturing and healing. It also symbolizes “home” and all the things that home represents – not just our physical home, but also our emotions, energy, body, and the spiritual hearth of our souls.

Spiritually, the Cancer archetype is one of compassion, of recognizing that people, in general, act to the best of their abilities, limited by their education, upbringing and current awareness. The Cancer archetype knows that love and forgiveness, where possible, are the best way to respond to destructive behavior – along with firm boundaries, of course.

This new moon also highlights your voyage of self-discovery: who you are, who you’re becoming, how do you realize your best self? It’s an excellent time to shine some light on your unique personality traits, the things about yourself that you want to change, and perhaps more importantly, to consider how you can achieve your goals while working with yourself {your strengths, vision, etc.} rather than against yourself {following “conventional” advice, which may or may not be serving you}.

Astro-Tarot influences for the July 2024 new moon in Cancer

To throw some more light on the July new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Cancer new moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the 3 of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Chariot, which is associated with Cancer.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

Looking at these two cards, the first thought that crosses my mind is “Celebrate your wins”. So let’s unpack this a bit, because most of us don’t celebrate our wins nearly enough.

There’s this phenomenon called arrival fallacy, which describes a feeling of depression, emptiness, and stress, once you’ve hit a huge goal or milestone. There are many reasons for this: biochemically, dopamine, the happiness hormone, starts to drop off, and the high that you experienced while working on your goals and achieving various milestones just feels flat once you actually achieve your goal. Psychologically, we sometimes put all of our eggs in one basket: focusing on a major goal, for example, which means that once it’s achieved, we’re suddenly adrift…and we don’t know what to do with ourselves next.

Often, we find ourselves either suffering through a bout of post-achievement depression, or jumping right onto the next goal, chasing that dopamine high, when what we probably need is some time to pause, reflect, and celebrate.

And this new moon is the perfect time to do that. Not only are we officially in the second half of the year — a time when a lot of us take stock of all that we have achieved and are yet to achieve this year — but the energy around this new moon is really special. There’s a fresh, joyous, uplifting energy that we are likely to feel most strongly on the day of, as well as a few days leading up to, the new moon.

Use these days for some reflection — look back at all that you’ve achieved so far this year, all that you’ve learned, and all the ways that you’ve grown. If you can, try and pencil in a coffee date with your besties, schedule a meet up with your local clubs, or find other ways to be out and about in your local {or online} communities.

Set aside some time on the day of the new moon or over the following two to three days to plan and refine what you would like to focus on in the second half of the year.

The moon forms a conjunction with Venus, lending a beautiful, heart-opening energy around our creativity and creative projects, and bringing into focus the things, both tangible and intangible, that we love. And with the moon forming beneficial aspects with both Saturn and Mars, we have some excellent astrology for planning and creating momentum.

This feels like an excellent new moon cycle to focus on some creative projects and pursue some deeply meaningful goals.

This symbol brings to mind good times, laughter, contentment and cheer. It reminds me of lunches with friends, all the times that we would over-order and then spend hours talking, drinking, and managing to finish up the mountains of food in front of us. There’s a certain feeling of satiation that we experience when we overindulge, occasionally — not just with food, but with anything that we consume.

But there’s a caveat, too: constant “feeding frenzies” in an effort to feel better can indicate issues of self-worth, and lead to other problems related to overspending or overeating, like debt and putting on weight.

As Lynda Hill reminds us in 360 Degrees of Wisdom: The Sabian Oracle, we need to “realize when it’s time to return to work, and to be productive instead of just swallowing, or “consuming” more and more.” Balance, in all things, seems key!
