Time flies when you’re having fun! And boy, am I having fun with my 100 day project — 100 days of art journaling — especially since it’s a low-pressure commitment to show up at the painty table for a minimum of 15 minutes every day. Many days, I end up spending a lot longer, as I fling paint around and make glorious messes…or rather paintings…in my art journal.
I’ve showed up for 20 consecutive days, and that thrills me. In my previous update, I mentioned that my self-imposed accountability to show up every day in the community space over on Studio Diaries motivated me on the days when I didn’t feel like painting. 20 days in, I’m happy to report that I now look forward to my painting sessions every day. Big win from a routine/habit building perspective, and one that I hope to maintain for a lot longer than 100 days.
Observations of note
I’d almost forgotten how meditative and trance-like my painting sessions become when I take the time to light a candle, pull a card, and call in my guides. For one of my recent art journaling sessions, I put on my art witch hat, did a simple mini ritual, and went into the flow state.
A page that started with scribbles and an abstract background turned into a richly colored iconic style painting and I’m still somewhat in awe at what fell out of my paintbrush.
I didn’t film this particular session, but I did film a small art ritual and intuitive painting tutorial for you, which you will find below, followed by the completed art journal spreads from days 11 to 20.
Art journal with me: Art journal ritual and intuitive painting with stenciling
Join me at the painty table, as I share a short and simple art ritual, and go into a painting session. In this session, I combine intuitive painting with stenciling and scribbly lines, and layering techniques to create a simple, whimsical abstract figurative painting. Enjoy!

Thank you, Vini!
I am in love with your art spreads. They are absolutely gorgeous and so unique. Love everything about it.
Thank you so much, Raj!
Beautiful! You inspire me to be more persistent and disciplined in challenging myself .
You’re quite the powerhouse yourself, Sunita!! xx
I am doing something similar with poetry – my second year of The Stafford Challenge and writing a poem a day. But lately, I have had an urge to fling both paint and clay around, and recently found a studio where I can play with the clay. Probably won’t go till May, when my calendar is wide open. 🙂
Ah yes! I remember you mentioning the challenge to Vinitha. Pottery is a lot of fun! I’m sure you’ll enjoy studio time when you get it!
