September 2025: Tarot spread for the solar eclipse in Virgo

Plus an astrology and tarot forecast, new moon ritual, and herbal lore for the Virgo new moon solar eclipse.

Tarot spread; astrology and tarot forecast; and ritual for the September 2025 solar eclipse in Virgo

The September 2025 solar eclipse falls in the sign of Virgo. The Virgo archetype is logical and practical, with an eye for detail and the steadfastness to go after their goals. This is a sign that thrives on meticulous planning, on honing skills to perfection and gaining mastery over their chosen vocation.

Spiritually, the Virgo archetype teaches the principle of devotion. One way to understand this principle is by looking at it through the lens of one’s devotion to their craft. While all the buzz seems to point towards profiting from your passion, there are numerous examples of famous writers and artists who held down a day job for most of their lives. Franz Kafka was an insurance clerk, Harper Lee was an airline ticketing agent, Mark Rothko was an elementary school teacher and Paul Gauguin was a stockbroker. They could all have given in to the dull drudgery of making a living, but they didn’t — and the world is much richer for their devotion to their craft.

We have the second eclipse of this season, with a partial solar eclipse that will be visible from New Zealand, a thin strip of Australia’s eastern coast, various Pacific islands, and parts of Antarctica.

Solar eclipses typically lend extra oomph to the new moon, helping us to break habitual patterns, bringing in an awakening of sorts, and offering us a cosmic reboot. The September 2025 solar eclipse ushers in a new cycle of change, encouraging us to release old patterns, blocks, and goals that may be going nowhere. What feels vital and juicy at this time? Focus on that, letting anything that is holding you back from following those clues fall away to the wayside.

Astrology and tarot influences for the September 2025 solar eclipse in Virgo

To throw some more light on the September new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astrological and tarot influences of this lunation. This new moon solar eclipse falls in decan 3, which is represented by the 10 of Pentacles. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Hermit, which is associated with Virgo.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck

I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.

Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.

There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

Also of note, this is the second new moon in Virgo this year, which means that it is working in tandem with the themes and energies of the August new moon. Refer back to your journal entries and tarot spread from last month to see what was alive for you around that time. Some of those themes may be coming back into your awareness again.

Overall, this solar eclipse in Virgo is a good time to hone in on the actions and changes that will support your well-being, overall health, and your daily routines and structures. If you didn’t last month, spend some time to consider your relationship with the vein of richness that runs through your life. Look at what parts of your life feel stagnant, stale, or blocked…where you need a fresh infusion of energy…and then consider what new routines or rituals you can introduce into your days that may shake things up a bit.

If you did do some of this work around the August new moon, reflect on any changes you’ve noticed over this period. Are there any tweaks you could make to your routines and rituals, or are they serving you well? Is there anything you’d like to add in?

With the Virgo solar eclipse opposite Saturn and Neptune, we may feel caught between discipline and dissolution, with the urge to cling to outmoded structures or to create strict schedules and routines in tension with the temptation to drift or escape into daydreams and fantasies.

The Virgo new moon is also trine Uranus and Pluto, which lend a rather transformative and liberating energy to this solar eclipse. Expect flashes of insight, eureka moments, and unexpected perspective shifts. This would be a particularly potent time for an energy healing, as it can help you shed layers of conditioning and bring about a noticeable shift in your energy.

If there’s a significant change you’ve been wanting to make, particularly in areas related to health and wellness, this is a good time to plant those seeds. This Virgo solar eclipse is all about the small, consistent choices that add up to lasting change. Use this eclipse energy to create routines and habits that can actually serve you in the months and years to come.

Herbal medicine for the solar eclipse in Virgo

Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb that I chose for the September 2025 new moon solar eclipse in Virgo is Ginkgo.

The Gingko is considered one of the oldest living tree species in the world, with fossils dating back over 200 million years. Often found in Chinese monasteries, the Ginkgo’s leaves were brewed in teas to aid gastrointestinal issues, and the fruit was applied topically to treat fungal infections. The nuts are, to this day, a delicacy in East Asian cuisine.

The Gingko tree has withstood millions of years of challenges, symbolizing resilience, strength, and survival. Like Uranus, Gingko is stimulating, an initiator of action and invigoration.

The Gingko is an indicator of breakthroughs, symbolizing the victory of transcendence over illusion. It points to the strength and resilience you need to go after your dreams and goals. Don’t allow negativity to cloud your judgement; when you feel the doubts and fears arise, challenge them, ask them “what if“? Feed your courage, not your fears.

Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

Ritual for the new moon solar eclipse in Virgo

For this new moon solar eclipse, I have a simple yet powerful mindful mapping ritual for you.

You will need:

A timer — the one on your phone is perfect

A journal and pen

A compass or plate to draw a circle {you can freehand it, too!}

Any tools you’d like to have to set up your space — a candle, some crystals {clear quartz would be perfect}, some incense, maybe even some soft music. This is entirely optional, and up to you how you’d like to set it up.

The ritual:

Set a timer for 5 minutes, and sit in silence. Imagine the eclipse overhead, the light dimming, shadows crossing, and then the slow return of the light. Notice how your body feels in that liminal space; notice any sensations, any insights that may arise. If there’s nothing, that’s perfectly fine, too. Just know that this is the “in-between” space, the space where change is afoot.

In your journal, draw a large circle, and divide into thee sections. Label these Body, Mind, Spirit.

Without overthinking, list out the small routines or habits you currently practice in each area.

Once you have your lists, put a star beside any habit or routine that feels nourishing and alive. Draw a line through any that feel stale, rigid, or no longer supportive. Notice what patterns emerge, where you may be clinging to structure and where there is space for renewal.

Choose one area (body, mind, or spirit) and write a single habit or change you’d like to introduce in the coming days. Keep it simple, e.g., “I do 5 sun salutations each morning” or “I spend 5 minutes on the porch or on the balcony without my phone once a day.”

Place your hand on the page. Say aloud: “I honor the endings…I welcome the beginnings…All of these small choices shape my future.”

Take a moment to write down the new habit somewhere where you will see it — on a habit tracker, in your planner, or a post-it note taped to the bathroom mirror.

Take a slow, deep breath, close your journal, put out your candle if you lit one, and go about your day.
