Plus an astrology and tarot forecast and new moon ritual for the Cancer new moon.

The July 2026 new moon falls in the sign of Cancer. The Cancer archetype is emotional, intuitive, nurturing and healing. It also symbolizes “home” and all the things that home represents – not just our physical home, but also our emotions, energy, body, and the spiritual hearth of our souls.
Spiritually, the Cancer archetype is one of compassion, of recognizing that people, in general, act to the best of their abilities, limited by their education, upbringing and current awareness. The Cancer archetype knows that love and forgiveness, where possible, are the best way to respond to destructive behavior – along with firm boundaries, of course.
This new moon can also usher in a new cycle of change, encouraging us to release old patterns, blocks, and goals that may be going nowhere. That is the only way to let in some fresh energy and vitality — and this new moon definitely encourages that. What excites you? What feels vital and juicy at this time? Focus on that, letting anything that is holding you back from following those clues fall away to the wayside.
This new moon is also a good time to refresh our rituals. Our small daily rituals can anchor us, providing touchstones on which we structure our days. But it’s all too easy to let them fall to the wayside when things become chaotic, or for our rituals to start feeling stale. How can you refresh your daily rituals? How can you invite moments of daily magic into your days? Recommit to your daily rituals, or design new ones during this new moon cycle.
Astrology and tarot influences for the July 2026 new moon
To throw some more light on the July new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astrology and tarot influences of this lunation. The Cancer new moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Four of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Chariot, which is associated with Cancer.

Some days you pull a tarot card and… nothing.
You stare at it, wondering what it’s trying to tell you — and whether you’re even asking the right questions.
If that’s you, Conversations with the Soul: 365 Tarot Journaling Prompts for Reflection and Renewal will change the way you read your cards.
It gives you a full year of thoughtful, creative prompts that help your readings feel richer, clearer, and more personal — one card, one question, one moment of insight at a time.
When was the last time you were bored? When you didn’t turn to your phone because you had a free moment and nothing to fill it with?
When was the last time you just sat with a cup of coffee and allowed your mind to wander….to daydream?
That’s one of the things that the 4 of Cups reminds me of. A person who is bored with everything around them. And then, there’s a cup emerging from a cloud in the sky — an idea? A solution? A spark of inspiration?
And could that moment of boredom — and subsequent inspiration — be the catalyst to helping you determine the next right step?
That’s what these cards seem to indicate: to take a spark of inspiration and run with it.
This is also supported by the astrology. With the Moon conjunct Mercury, inspiration could arrive from an unexpected conversation or a sudden realization. And that realization could ripple outwards, with a new way of moving through and showing up in the world.
But not all ideas deserve to be pursued, and with Saturn active during this lunation, discernment in encouraged. Recognizing the difference between fleeting ideas and passing distractions, and ideas that keep showing up and demand not just attention, but dedication.
Perhaps that’s what this new moon is offering us: the invitation to make time for stillness so we can recognize the inspiration, the cup, that is being offered to us, and to gather the courage to follow where it leads.

Ritual for the new moon in Cancer
For this new moon, I offer you a simple ritual to just be…and see what emerges.
You will need:
A cup of your favorite beverage
Some quiet time
A pen and paper (or the Notes app on your phone, but read through the ritual first)
The ritual:
Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, then leave your phone in another room and sit somewhere comfortable — your porch, on the balcony, curled up in your favorite spot on the sofa.
Drink your tea or coffee mindfully. During this time, you’re not allowed to read, listen to a podcast, journal, meditate, or do anything. Just be with your drink of choice and your thoughts.
Notice what your mind does when it has nothing to entertain it. This isn’t necessarily easy — the first time I did it, I was surprised, and somewhat alarmed, at how difficult it was.
Try to stay with it. Follow your thoughts. If they circle around tasks and to-dos, tell you that this is stupid, just gently release it. Remind yourself this is a tiny experiment in just being. Try and let your mind simply wander while you drink your tea or coffee.
When you’re done (a minimum of 20-30 minutes, if possible), make note of any ideas, questions, or memories that came up for you. Anything you found yourself curious about. This is where you use pen and paper. If you’re using the Notes app, you’re not allowed to have your phone with you while you’re drinking your beverage of choice.
Simply make the list, and then go about your day. Come back to it after a day and see what still sparks your curiosity. Then, take one small step towards it.
