Tarot spread; astrology and tarot forecast; and grounding ritual for the August 2026 solar eclipse in Leo

The August 2026 new moon falls in the sign of Leo. The bold and dynamic Leo archetype infuses us with a passionate zest for living. It is the archetype of the fiery creative who is confident and unafraid to stand in the spotlight. But this infectious dynamic can also succumb to its shadow aspects of overbearing pride, drama and arrogance.

Spiritually, the Leo archetype teaches the principle of creative manifestation. Clarity of thought and focused energy, which points to the spiritual principle that your beliefs about life tend to shape your life. You can see this spiritual principle at play with a regular gratitude practice. When you cultivate an active gratitude practice, you tend to experience a shift in your life and circumstances. And while your life may not change dramatically, your outlook to life can certainly shift.

This new moon also kicks off eclipse season, with a total solar eclipse that will be fully visible along a narrow path crossing Greenland, Iceland, the Atlantic Ocean, a small part of northeastern Portugal, and northern Spain. A partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, northern Africa, and parts of North America.

Solar eclipses typically lend extra oomph to the new moon, helping us to break habitual patterns, bringing in an awakening of sorts, and offering us a cosmic reboot.

The August 2026 new moon solar eclipse highlights the concept of home, and the need to ground ****into the home we live in, the land we move on, the body we inhabit, and the thoughts we engage with. How can we create a sanctuary, a meeting place, for ourselves and the ones we love? That’s the focus of this Leo new moon.

Astrology and tarot influences for the August 2026 solar eclipse in Leo

The Daily Pause oracle deck

The Daily Pause Oracle

A beautifully designed 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, give you a word or an idea to reflect on as you go about your day. Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing. There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.

The wands speak to me of creative fire. Of what it takes to live our creative dreams. The small daily actions and the courage it takes to live those dreams. The need to create some boundaries. To stand our ground when distractions and fears come a-calling, and to remind ourselves of what is truly important.

At the same time, we need to remember that simply white-knuckling it through isn’t the answer. We need to cultivate the inner steadiness to stay connected to what matters, even when fear, doubt or distraction come knocking.

It’s easy to give in to apathy, to think that our small daily creative practices do not matter. But they do — they are how we protest. How we resist. How we refuse to give in to the despair. To take back our attention and our agency from the forces that seek to overwhelm us. By creating pockets of calm, of presence and attention; by making things with our hands, with our words; we take our power back.

With this Leo eclipse, we are being called to defend and protect our boundaries. To notice what fears or doubts may be creeping in, and also to notice what it is that grounds us and makes us feel whole and strong.

The astrology around this solar eclipse echoes these themes.

The Moon is conjunct Jupiter, which encourages us to make room for more joy, more creativity, more of the things that make us feel alive. But rather than just daydreaming, or making notes in our planner but never looking at them again, the Moon trine Saturn nudges us to commit and take action…to give the things that matter to us the time, attention and commitment they deserve.

With Venus in a mildly irritating aspect, though, we are being asked to look a little closer at our desires: are we choosing what genuinely delights us, or what we think we should want? That’s an interesting question to circle around this time. Because before we can truly commit to our creative dreams, we have to know which desires are actually ours.

Ritual for the solar eclipse in Leo

Eclipses aren’t a time for manifestation or big rituals. So for this new moon, when the energy can be a bit overwhelming, I offer you a few simple suggestions for grounding.

Crystals: One of my favorite ways to ground is to hold a piece of black tourmaline in the palms of my hand. This is one crystal that instantly calms my racing mind and helps me feel grounded. If you have black tourmaline, consider carrying a piece around with you in pocket or purse, or pop it into your bra. Another crystal you can experiment with is smoky quartz.

Visualization: Imagine a long tap root growing from your tailbone and going down, deep into mama earth. I like to imagine the root going through all the layers of earth until it reaches the molten core, where it wraps around a crystal. You can pull up some energy from the crystal and from earth and let it flow through your body.

Earthing: Walk barefoot on grass if you can, or get your hands dirty in the soil — in your garden or even in a potted plant.
