A day in our life #WriteBravely

For today’s Write Tribe Festival of Words #6, I invited my dearest friends to tell us about a typical day in their lives. I’ve often wished that I had just half the fun they do – when you read what they have to say, I’m sure you’ll agree with me! So, without further ado, let me turn this over to them!

Life – it is beautiful! From dawn to dusk, we are engaged in the things that matter the most to us. We follow our curiosity, indulge our passion, and also get up to a bit of fun and mischief from time to time!

Let us give you a peek into this beautiful life.

Oh, and fair warning – we don’t like linear stories, so we aren’t going to do a boring time-table and tell you when we wake up and when we go to bed!

Let’s start, instead, with one of our passions – food!

My greatest treasure: A mirror to my heart #WriteBravely

What if I told you that my greatest treasure is a mirror? But it is no ordinary mirror – it’s a mirror to my heart, to my soul. It gives me a portal into my own innate wisdom, a way to navigate through the inevitable obstacles that arise during my days. It reflects back both light and shadows, helping me to gently work at uncovering my hurts, tending to them, and becoming whole again.

It works, like most magical mirrors do, with intention, with questions; the clearer the intent, the more focused the question, the stronger the mirror’s reflective powers.Continue reading

Anything but books

I’m generally not a huge fan of blog tags, mostly because I’m just too lazy to answer questions about myself! But I’ve been seeing this book tag do the rounds, and it looks really interesting. So when Sreesha tagged me on the Anything But Books tag, I had to give it a go.

Anything-but-books

Here’s how this works. I’ve been given a set of questions. My answers have to be about anything – as the name suggests – but books. At the end of the post, I’ll tag a few other bloggers to share their answers.

Here goes!Continue reading

Passion projects, personal transformation and overcoming resistance

Tarot guidance for personal transformationI start each morning with a moment of mindfulness, spending some time with a simple question and a single card drawn from my Tarot deck.

Each morning the cards reflect back a nugget of wisdom – it could be a simple reminder telling me to stay focused on the task at hand; a not-so-subtle push to stop day dreaming and start doing already; or an indication of a broader energy that I may need to work with during the day.

For today’s daily Tarot pull, I sat with this simple question:

What do I need to know about personal transformation?

When I drew the card and wrote down the message in my Tarot journal, I immediately knew that this was something that needed to be shared. Continue reading

“I don’t understand what women want!” a male colleague wailed the other day.

To which another one shared this handy photo he had received on what’s app

Come on guys! We aren’t that hard to understand!

A field guide to self love

The first thought that crosses my mind as I’m drafting this post is what the bloody hell was I thinking? What can I, the person who struggles most with accepting myself, possibly say about self love?

And then I realize – just the fact that I was excited about doing this, shows how far I have come on this journey of loving myself.

On feeling loved…

I take on the baton of Blog Love from Deepa Gandhi.

I have to admit, when I first saw the topic of this blog chain – Why I love my blog – my mind went blank. Why do I love my blog? There are so many reasons, and no reasons at all! But then, due to some personal reasons, I was unable to find words – any words, on any topic. And when I mentioned that, the fabulous Richa Singh offered to write a guest post for me. Here it is –  it brought tears to my eyes! For more reasons than I can list out, Richa, thank you!

Ghetto Blogging.

A term that has been existing in my dictionary since 2009. Also the year I started blogging.

It means when a group of bloggers start to follow each other’s content pattern and eventually form a mutual admiration society to sustain the uninspired walks of blogging- Ghetto is formed. It neither helps blogging or bloggers.

Whatever is opposite of Ghetto Blogging comes in the form of Modern Gypsy’s Blog.Continue reading

Book review: Chameleon by Zoe Kalo

book-review-Chameleon-zoe-kahloAn isolated convent, a supernatural presence, a dark secret…

I love reading spooky, supernatural thrillers in the dead of winters, huddled up inside a blanket. And this novella by Zoe Kahlo sounded like it would be right up my alley.

17-year-old Paloma only wanted to hold a séance to contact her dead father. She never thought she would be kicked out of school and end up in an isolated convent. Now, all she wants is to be left alone. But slowly, she develops a bond with a group of girls: kind-hearted Maria, insolent Silvy, pathological liar Adelita, and their charismatic leader Rubia.

Why I’m thrilled I read fewer books in 2016 + my 5 favorite reads

As I go through the books I’ve read this year, it’s immediately evident that the count is much lower than in the last couple of years. Since about 2012, I think, I’ve been averaging about 60 to 70 books each year. This year, the count is at a measly 26. And I’m thrilled! Because it is tangible proof that I’ve been spending my time doing more art, more soul work, and a whole lotta more blogging!

Reading has always been something I love – and don’t get me wrong, I love it still. But in the last few years, it had become an unhealthy, obsessive sorta love. I used it as an escape route – from life, from inner work, from my fears and hopes and dreams. Because if I was spending every free moment reading, I wasn’t doing much of anything else, was I?Continue reading
