Plus some journaling questions, an astro-tarot forecast, exploration of the the Sabian symbol, mini ritual, and additional resources for the December 2021 new moon in Sagittarius.

The December 2021 new moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius. The freedom loving Sagittarius archetype is in a constant search for inspiration, new avenues of exploration, and adventure. This is a sign that gets bored of the status quo easily, and needs the rush of a new quest to keep them on their toes.
Spiritually, the Sagittarius archetype teaches us to cultivate our own personal relationship with the divine. Contrary to what most religions and a lot of spiritual teachers say, you don’t need an intermediary between you and Source/God/the Universe. You have that connection available to you at all times. Learning to tune in and trust that connection is where a lot of us seem to stumble, though.
This month, we also have a solar eclipse, which will be visible in Antacrtica, and in parts of southern Africa, including locations in South Africa and Namibia. Solar eclipses typically lend extra oomph to the new moon, helping us to break habitual patterns, bringing in an awakening of sorts, and offering us a cosmic reboot. This particular eclipse is the final eclipse on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, and is connected to the series of eclipses that started in June 2022.
Looking back, what have you learnt during this time, and in what ways has your life and outlook to life and living changed? The final eclipse in this Gemini-Sagittarius series will help you integrate that hard-won wisdom into your daily life, so spending some time in reflection is recommended.
Astro-tarot influences for the December 2021 new moon in Saggitarius
To throw some more light on the December new moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Sagittarius new moon falls in decan 2, which is represented by the Nine of Wands. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with Temperance, which is associated with Sagittarius.
These last couple of years have not been easy. The world as we knew it changed in the blink of an eye. Isolation and social distancing became our normal, and every time we ventured out of the home, we hid our emotions behind literal masks. I wouldn’t be remiss if I said we witnessed a global initiation — whether or not we were prepared for it.
We’ve all been pushed into unchartered territory, into an event that none of us could have imagined and that none of us were prepared for. It is highly unlikely that any of us would have emerged from these events unchanged in some way.
And while we aren’t yet fully out of the woods, we do seem to be on more stable ground. A little battle weary and anxious perhaps, but that, I suppose, is to be expected. (9 of Wands)
This new moon offers us the chance for some reflection, introspection, and healing (Temperance). To look over the last two years and see the ways in which we have changed, grown, and transformed. To acknowledge the ways of being that we have outgrown and to start integrating all of the puzzle pieces into a new whole. This Sagittarius new moon also offers up some gentle healing energy, specially around any relationships — with others or even ourselves — where we need to bring gentleness or reparations.
These past couple of years have also shone a bright light on systems of oppression and social ills that are still crying out to be repaired. There are times when it all seems too much — how do we heal scars and wounds that have lasted generations? Why are we still dealing with questions of race, caste, gender, capitalist greed, and disregard for resources? If we still haven’t learnt anything, how can be there be any hope for humanity?
I think it can be easy to forget that these are generational woundings. While people have been talking about some of these issues since decades, we are unlikely to see a resolution during our lifetime. Instead of being a cause for despair, it can help to remember that as more people wake up, as more of us raise a voice, raise children who are more sensitive to these inter-generational traumas, we move a step closer to bringing healing and reparation to this world.
It may never happen in our lifetime, but the more seeds we sow today, the more wounds that we heal within ourselves, the stronger are the chances that our children or grand children or maybe great-grand children will inherit a better world. And if that is the best that we can do, that may just be enough.

This symbol brings to mind skeletons in a closet, tumbling out. The secrets and lies that we tell others and ourselves, the things we keep bottled up and repressed, bubbling up to the surface. And though it may seem scary to have all those secrets come tumbling out, it is only in the light of day that those secrets that have been festering in the dark can be processed and, perhaps, healed.
But dwelling too long on issues from the past, or on old hurts and sorrows, can pull you down in the present. What’s needed here is the ability to direct your attention with compassion and care. Because when we have the strength to look at old wounds with compassion and care, we have a unique chance to metabolize and eventually heal them.

An integration ritual for the December 2021 new moon in Sagittarius
Here’s a simple ritual to help you integrate the changes that this eclipse series has brought.
You’ll need:
A candle
A journal and pen
A crystal – I recommend a quartz crystal
A warm beverage
The card you pulled for Integration – optional
A playlist of soothing music – optional
Ritual outline:
Light the candle. Play some soft music if you like. Prop up your tarot card as a focus point if you wish.
Take 3 deep belly breaths to center yourself.
Set a 10 minute timer and freewrite. Start with this sentence: This is what I need to integrate/understand/adapt…” If you get stuck, start again with this sentence.
When you’re done, take 3 deep belly breaths to center yourself again.
Sit back and enjoy your beverage, while you look over what you’ve written. Circle anything that jumps out at you. If you remember something, make a quick note of it. On a fresh page, write down “I’m integrating” – and list everything that you circled or noted.
Hold the crystal between both your hands, bring your hands up to your heart.
Take 3 deep belly breaths to ground and center yourself.
Read out your list – aloud or in your mind.
Once you’re done, breathe gently over your crystal.
Lay your crystal on top of your tarot card or on your altar or desk overnight to infuse the energies of everything you’re integrating.
Over the next few days or weeks, you may like to carry your crystal with you or sleep with it under your pillow.
